PRINCIPAL WRITES

SCHOOL COUNCIL Our last School Council meeting was held on Monday 8th May. Key discussions at the council meeting included:

- PARKING AROUND THE SCHOOL – School Council member outlined some key communications that had

occurred with the Wyndham City Council related to parking issues around our school and the safety of

school community members. Staff from the WCC City Transport Department had attended Bellbridge PS for

a meeting to review parking issues and proposals for improvement.

- CURRICULUM DAY – The successful use of our Curriculum Day in April was shared, with most teachers

undertaking Professional Learning related to maths; some of our specialist teachers taking the opportunity

to undergo school visits to broaden their knowledge of the way their specialist areas are implemented in

other schools; and Education Support staff following detailed schedules for visits to both Warringa Park

School and Western Autistic School to collect ideas for successful strategies in supporting students with

special needs.

SWPBS: SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT PROGRAM

Our SWPBS strategies continue to be embraced throughout our school by all staff and students. This program has

provided a culture and tone in our school that ensures calm and settled environments for work and play. Students

respond well to clear and consistent expectations, supported by incentives and positive rewards, and teachers are

able to teach and students are able to learn with minimal interruptions. Clear guidelines and procedures to manage

unacceptable behaviour or challenging situations provide opportunities for students to learn from poor choices

and/or errors in judgement.

SWPBS REWARDS SHOP

The ‘Rewards Shop’ is located in the room near the entry to the staff car park on Bellbridge Drive. Students are able

to visit the Rewards Shop each Tuesday or Thursday at 1:00pm. The Rewards Shop is overseen by the Health &

Wellbeing Team in collaboration with the Student Leaders (SRC – Class Captains and Class Vice Captains).

Our students enjoy earning bee tokens for demonstrating positive behaviours in the classroom and the yard. The

bee tokens they collect can be cashed in for prizes at the Rewards Shop, or some students prefer to cash them in

for beehive tokens for class rewards, or other classroom incentives.

EDUCATION WEEK

It’s Education Week this week, and we have had a number of things happening to acknowledge the special week

with the theme “Healthy Mind, Healthy Body”:

• Buddies Week activities in line with the theme of “Healthy Mind, Healthy Body”.

• Family Maths Night (Tuesday)

• Pyjama Day (Wednesday)

• Free Gr 2 excursion (Friday) – an Education Week offering.

NATIONAL WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY

Thank you to all those who contributed to ensure that this special Active Travel day was such a success. It was

wonderful to see so many students travelling actively to school, excited to receive bee tokens, stickers and a stamp

on the hand to go into a raffle. The school was buzzing with excitement on Friday morning, and again at assembly

when we were lucky enough to have SUPERBEE drop by and excite the children!

COMPASS

It is vital that parents are able to log in to Compass in order to complete tasks such as: - Consent and pay for school excursions, camps, etc. - View Student Reports as soon as they are available (next on Friday 23rd June)

- Make an appointment for a Parent-Teacher Meeting (next on Mon 26th-Wed 28th June)

The link to Compass is provided on our Bellbridge PS website homepage. If you do not remember your password for Compass, please go to the Compass Portal and select “Can’t access your

account?” This link will take you to: https://bellbridgeps-vic.compass.education/Portal/ForgotPassword.aspx where

you can take steps to change your password. PARENT-TEACHER MEETINGS

Mid-year Parent-Teacher Meetings will take place in the last week of this term. These meetings will provide an opportunity to discuss your child's progress in further detail subsequent to receiving the Semester 1 Student Report.

Appointment bookings are now open. Please log in to Compass to book a time from the options available. *If there are no suitable time slots available, please arrange an alternative day/time with the classroom teacher.

We are very excited to be able to offer a small number of meeting times with our specialist teachers. If you are

interested in a meeting with your child’s Performing Arts, Physical Education, STEM or Art teacher, please get onto

Compass early to secure a booking in addition to the booking with the class teacher. If there are no times showing available for a specialist teacher, this means that all available time slots have been taken.

Families with multiple children at our school are also advised to book early to ensure the time slots can be made

around the same time. We recommend that you do not book time slots immediately following each other - just to be sure you have time to move from one classroom to the next.

NOTE: Only the available time slots will show in the drop-down menu. If you change your time and see the green word “Booked”, it means that you have booked the time showing. It doesn’t mean that time is already booked by

someone else. We believe Compass is working on making the system more user-friendly in the future. One FAMILY CODE (LOGIN) is provided per home address for parents/guardians. Where both parents live with a

student, they share the same login. Separated parents living in different addresses may wish to have a unique login

code for each parent. In this instance, an "alternative family" form should be obtained from the school office.

STEM

It was a busy week in STEM last week at Bellbridge, with our R.E.A.L. Robotics team heading out with our STEM

teacher, Sarah Murphy, to work on Lego Mindstorms.

On Tuesday, Miss Murphy hosted a very successful first “Wyndham STEM Teacher’s Network” meeting in our STEM room, with teachers from a third of Wyndham’s schools coming together and sharing ideas. We were very proud to be arranging the establishment of such an important collaboration between Wyndham schools and teachers of this relatively new field! STEM is in its second year at Bellbridge, available to students in Grades 3-6.

CHANGE OF PERSONAL DETAILS

It is of the utmost importance that all family contact details are kept up to date.

SMS, via Compass is regularly used to inform parents/guardians of an upcoming event that requires

consent and payment and will be used to inform families in emergency situations.

A Change of Details form can be obtained from the office. Please note that changes to email addresses and

mobile numbers can be updated on Compass.

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL

If your child is absent from school for any reason, we require parents/guardians to notify the school office

that they won’t be attending. When your child returns to school, a note must be given to their teacher

detailing the date and the reason for the absence.

If your child has any long term absences from school, (eg. holidays, extended illness etc) a note is required

to be given to their teacher informing them of the absence prior to them commencing the absence.

LATE ARRIVAL/EARLY LEAVERS

Any child arriving to school after 8.30am is required to attend the office with a parent/guardian, to obtain a

late pass. If your child is leaving school early, the parent/guardian is required to send a note with their

child on the morning informing the classroom teacher of the time they will be collected and who will be

collecting them. The parent/guardian is required to sign the child out at the office, where arrangements

will be made for the child to come up to office.

ASTHMA PLANS

We appreciate the returned asthma plans that we have received and remind all parents to please continue

to send these back to school.

We would also like to remind you that a Ventolin and spacer is required to be kept in the classroom for

you child that has asthma.

Family Maths

Maths is all around us every day and sharing this everyday maths with children

strengthens their understanding and increases their chances of success at school.

Super Bee was excited to see all the children have their photos taken at Bellbridge last week, so he decided to get together with his insect

friends for photos.

Altogether, there were 24 insects, including Super Bee in the photo. They had a difficult time deciding where to stand and how many

insects should be in each row.

Can you think of how many different combinations they tried out? Use your knowledge of arrays to help you solve the problem.

Array: A set of numbers or objects placed in rows or columns.

Arrays are often used to represent multiplication or division.
