DAY 1 Rome Benvenuti a Roma! After your arrival at Fiumicino airport, make your own way to your hotel. Check in and enjoy the city at your leisure before spending your first night in Italy. Accommodation in Rome.

DAY 2 Rome • Assisi • Siena • Florence 372 km After breakfast, depart for Assisi. You may explore at your leisure this tiny town surrounded by walls, built in the middle ages. Visit the St. Francis Basilica to see the masterpieces by Giotto and Cimabue followed by some free time for lunch (not included). Board the bus for Siena, a medieval town surrounded by ancient walls and well known for the Palio, an annual summertime horse race that takes place at the Piazza del Campo town square. Continue on to Florence for supper and accommodation.

DAY 3 Florence After breakfast, you will spend the day visiting Florence, the “cradle of the Renaissance”, where, with the help of Michelangelo, Italian art reached its pinnacle. Based on Etruscan-roman origins, the city flourished in the middle ages as a free “commune” and was further refined by the Renaissance. You will be fascinated by its numerous monuments, churches, and buildings, such as Santa Maria del Fiore, more commonly referred to as the Duomo. During your visit, you will be amazed by its magnificent dome built by Filippo Brunelleschi. Cross a small square to see the Campanile Tower (partly designed by Giotto) and the baptistery, with its bronze doors that Michelangelo dubbed the ʺgates of paradiseʺ. In the heart of the city, you will see Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo della Signoria (also known as Palazzo Vecchio), and the Santa Croce Basilica. Lunch (included) will be in a typical restaurant in Piazza Santa Croce. Spend the afternoon strolling the cobblestone streets of Florence on your own or take a short trip to Pisa (optional $), one of the four main historical Maritime Republics of Italy. There, you will see the Square of Miracles (Piazza dei Miracoli), which houses the Duomo, the leaning tower and the baptistery. Supper at leisure and accommodation in Florence.

DAY 4 Florence • Bologna • Padova • Venice 271 km After breakfast, depart for Bologna. There, you will wander through the city’s elegant city centre with its arcades (or porticos). From Piazza Malpighi, you will walk to Piazza del Nettuno and Piazza Maggiore (Neptune Square and Major Square) in the heart of the city, where you will find the Neptune Fountain, King Renzo Palace, Podestà Palace and San Petronio Basilica, one of the largest churches in the world. In the afternoon, continue toward Padova, with its original Sant’Antonio Basilica. Departure for Venice, the city of love. Supper and accommodation in Venice.

DAY 5 Venice After breakfast you will board a private water-taxi to St. Mark’s Square. Visit of St. Mark’s Basilica (interior). You will pass by the Doge’s Palace, a symbol of the glory and authority of Venice as it housed the seat of the government and the court of justice. Nearby you will see the legendary Bridge of Sighs. Spend the afternoon roaming along Venice’s canals at your leisure. Supper and accommodation in Venice.

DAY 6 Venice • Montepulciano (Tuscany) • Rome 543 km After breakfast, depart from Piazzale Roma in Venice for Tuscany, known for its landscapes, churches, castles and its famous wines. You will proceed to Val di Chiana with a stop in Montepulciano, a medieval town rich in history and art. Known for its “Nobile” wine, which can be purchased in the wine houses in town, Montepulciano is also the host of an annual jazz and wine festival every July. Spend the afternoon getting to know Montepulciano at your own pace. Free wine tasting in many shops and free time for shopping. In the evening arrive in Rome. Accommodation in Rome.

DAY 7 Rome Breakfast at the hotel. Early morning departure for a visit of the Vatican Museums (interior), the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. The tour ends at St. Peter’s Square. Rest of the day is at leisure to explore the eternal city at your own pace. Accommodation in Rome.

DAY 8 Rome • Naples • Pompeii • Sorrento 277 km After breakfast, early morning departure, traveling through the regions of Lazio and Campania. Upon arriving in Naples, you will go on a short panoramic tour and up to Vomero Hill to enjoy beautiful views of the Gulf of Naples, Vesuvius, Capri, Ischia and Procida. Return to Margellina for a short walk on the marina. Lunch in Ercolano and then a visit of Pompeii and the excavations of the famous Roman city, destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Leaving Pompeii, you will drive along the Sorrentine Coast. Supper and accommodation in Sorrento.

DAY 9 Sorrento • Capri • Sorrento Breakfast at the hotel. Depart by ferry from Sorrento for a full day excursion to the island of Capri. If weather permits you will admire the blue grotto on a small boat tour. Lunch in a local restaurant. Afternoon at leisure to explore the island at your own pace and admire the beautiful views the island has to offer. Return to Sorrento. Supper and accommodation in Sorrento. (Exception: From July 01 to August 26).

DAY 10 Sorrento • Rome 265 km Breakfast at the hotel and spend a leisurely morning at your hotel or exploring the Amalfi Coast. In the afternoon depart for Rome. Accommodation in Rome.

DAY 11 Rome Breakfast at hotel and depart by your own means of transportation.
