Upcoming Events

Vet Science Camp

August 1—3, 2016—Bell County Expo!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a veterinarian and help animals every day?

This exciting camp is open to all youth who are in grades 3rd through 12th, (ages 8-18). Participants will

explore what it takes to get to vet school, learn about the 4-H veterinary science project, get to see live

veterinary procedures, hands on sessions, and meet local veterinarians and vet technicians.

Activities will include:

Games, demonstrations, talks with professionals, hands-on skills session and

much more. The Texas A&M Emergency Vet Team will be making an appearance

as well as many Veterinarians from your local area.

2016 4-H Awards Banquet

The annual 4-H Banquet is set for Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Bell County Expo Special Events Room. We

will need pictures for the 4-H slideshow. Please send any pictures from your club activities or 4-H contests to

[email protected].

Hunter’s Spectacular

SAVE THE DATE! The Bell County 4-H fundraiser will take place Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Bell County

Expo Center! If you are interested in serving on a committee, please let Sheryl know.

If you are interested in assisting in planning the annual 4-H Banquet, please join us at the CEO on Tuesday, July

12, 2016. This meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. Come with your ideas on how to make the banquet better!

4-H Hunter’s Spectacular Meeting

If you are interested in assisting in planning the annual 4-H fundraiser Hunter’s Spectacular, please join us at

the CEO on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. This meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. We want all Committee Chairman in

attendance! If your committee has met, please be prepared to give us an update!

Summer Fun Activities

~Summer Workshop Guidelines~

Please make sure the participants arrive on time

Participants must be picked up promptly at the conclusion of the workshop

Please adhere to RSVP deadlines and registration fees

Cell phones will be prohibited, participants will be able to check their phones on breaks and at the conclusion of the program.

Pickles from the Garden to the Shelf

A hands on project will take place on the Payne Farm in Moody on July 23, 2016. You will pick your own cucumbers and then learn safe canning techniques to make your own pickles! Limited to 12 participants.

Limited to members at least 10 years of age.

Time: 9:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m.

Cost: $2 plus supplies

RSVP to the CEO before July 18, 2016

Cupcake Decorating Workshop

When: July 18, 2016 Where: County Extension Office

1st Workshop: 10:00—11:30 a.m.

2nd Workshop: 6:00—7:30 p.m.

Cost: $6 per participant per workshop

RSVP to the CEO by July 13, 2016

Chef Day Camp

We will be hosting a Chef Day Camp on Friday, August 5th. This event will take place at

the Central Texas College Culinary Department. Cost of this day camp is $6 per person

(must have exact change) and you must sign a waiver from CTC. Payment and signed

waiver must be turned in in order to RSVP for this event.

Membership Advisory Board Meeting

When: August 25th Where: CEO Board Room Time: 6:30 pm

All Club Managers and Assistant Club Managers are required to attend. This meeting will not only elect new

officers, but we will have a training for those that attend. All parents and leaders are also invited to attend.

Each club is allowed a maximum of 3 votes.

We will hopefully have the 2016-2017 charter packets available from the state office to give to each club. Let

Sheryl know if you have a schedule conflict or any questions.

4-H Club Managers / Adult Volunteers

MAB Finance Committee Meeting

If you are interested in serving on the Membership Advisory Board Finance Committee, then please come to

the CEO on Thursday, August 18th. We will be reviewing the finances starting at 6:00 p.m. We strongly

encourage a representative from each club attend this meeting! This will determine how the funds raised will

be distributed for the 2016-2017 4-H year.

Turn in tickets to your Club Managers: September 21-25 (unless earlier date stated by your Club Manager)

Turn in tickets to CEO (CLUB MANAGERS ONLY): Wednesday, September 28—Friday, September 30

8—11 a.m. then 1-4 p.m. NEW THIS YEAR ~ Club managers will deposit all money sold by their

members into their club account. Managers will then write a check to Bell 4-H for your total amount

of tickets sold

Livestock Project News

Texas 4-H Horse Show

When: July 23-30 Where: Taylor County Expo, Abilene, TX

If you want a Texas 4-H Horse Show T-Shirt, go to

Horse Show from 1-3 pm on Monday, Thursday, or Friday on the East Concourse on the south end of the Coli-

seum. Shirts will not be mailed directly to the exhibitor.

Major Show Validation and Tag Orders

Major Show Tag orders for lambs, goats and pigs will be due in August! Tags will have to paid for in

advance at the time of ordering. Please pay attention to upcoming newsletters and emails to make sure

you place an order for your families’ tags! All Major Show Entries (Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Houston, San

Angelo, Austin) will go through the CEO. If you have any questions, please refer them to Sheryl.

Entry forms for the above shows are available at the CEO. Please come by, fill out, and turn in the appropriate

paperwork as well as payment for all entry fees. Be sure to pay attention to the date for each show and when

those forms are due to the CEO. MUST HAVE EXACT CHANGE OR MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO BELL

COUNTY 4-H! If you have any further questions please contact Sheryl at [email protected] or

~Poultry Exhibitors~

BCYF Turkeys & ALL Major Show Turkeys: Due to CEO by July 29, cost is $3.50 per bird. You can order in in-

crements of 5 with a maximum of 75 birds per exhibitor or family.

San Antonio, Houston & Austin Broilers: Due to CEO by October 2, cost $31.25 per 25 head, must declare

which Major Livestock Show the birds are for.

BCYF Roaster: Due to CEO by November 1, cost $44 for 25 birds. Birds will arrive on December 6th.

BCYF Broiler: Due to CEO: November 22, cost $44 for 25 birds. Birds will arrive on December 27th.

HLAB Meeting

Date: Monday, July 25, 2016

Location: County Extension Office

Time: 5:30 p.m.

4-H Enrollment starts August 15th!!! All enrollment is done via 4-H Connect. You can access 4-H

Connect by going to our 4-H website at http://agrilife.org/bell4h/ and clicking on the 4-H Connect

icon.

To maintain the level of programming and opportunities in the Texas 4-H and Youth Development

Program, an annual participant fee is implemented for each 4-H member (excluding Clover Kids). The

participant fee is $20 if enrolled from August 15th to October 31st, November 1st the participant

fee will increase to $25.

Please do not worry if you are still pending at the county level once you have enrolled. The

county office will try to keep up as best as we can by approving them at least once a week. As long as

you complete your enrollment, you are in the system and good for enrollment and BCYF

requirements. Enrollment dues must be paid by an electronic payment.

All volunteers who enroll will be charged $5.00 each volunteer. This covers your screening for the
