Trendwatchers are in the middle of some interesting years. As is the Belgian furniture industry. New megatrends are in the spotlight, are analyzed and reflected upon in the light of what the future will bring. The Belgian industry anticipates upon these social megatrends and considers how these will influence the consumer’s behavior. Some specific trends are of particular interest to the furniture industry. Think about themes such as globalization, the female shift, connectivity and networking, the silver society and aging differently, health, care and wellness, the neo-ecology, mobility, new work, individualization and the much practiced design thinking.

All of these movements form a colorful pallet with a very divers range of centrifugal forces. Working with big volumes is the direct opposite of working on segmented and micro markets.

The Belgian furniture industry has been active on the international field for many decades. It is not related to one specific market and has prospects all over the world. New social trends are, whether consciously or not, integrated in the design and production proces and are a part of the composition of a new collection. This proces is different for different companies and is influenced by the type of company, the size and the environment in which a company operates.

A number of Belgian companies are leading in Europe when it comes to technicality and flexibility. Others focus more on collections aimed at specific markets. Recor’s Comfort The new modern relax programme by Recor is named New Move Modern. Three different backrests (Columbia, Challenger and Discovery), can be combined with four different armrests. Steel tube furniture Perfecta has been making lacquered and chromium plated steel tube furniture for the modern segment for more than fifty years. The quick and correct delivery of chairs, table and beds is one of Perfecta’s strong points. The products end up in the living environment (dining room, kitchen, bedroom), communities/projects and offices. The tabletops are available with an HPL cover, glass and ceramics top. Most tables are available in several heights and in tabletop dimensions of 60x60 up to 300x100 cm. The chairs are available in fifty colours of artificial leather and fabric. Barstools of sitting height 65 cm suite the tables of 90 cm height, the barstools of 80 cm match with the tables of 110 cm. The frames of most models can be made in no less than sixteen epoxy colours, plus the choice for chrome or satin chrome. Characteristic furnitureIn 1917 Marshall Burns Lloyd developed a method of twisting kraft paper round a steel wire. The paper threads are then woven into mats.
