"Flip teaching (or flipped classroom) is a form of blended learning in which students learn new content online by watching video lectures, usually at home, and what used to be homework (assigned problems) is now done in class with teacher offering more personalized guidance and interaction with students, instead of lecturing."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flip_teaching

Why are there 535 members of Congress?

Script:

Line  1:  Here’s  the  big  question  for  the  day:  Why  are  there  535  members  of  Congress?

Line  2:  To  answer  that  question,  let’s  start  by  considering  the  make-up  of  the  congress.

Line  3:  When  our  Congress  was  founded,  it  was  set  up  to  be  a  bicameral  legislature.

Line  4:  “What  does  bicameral  mean,”  you  ask?

Line  5:  It’s  a  governmental  body  with  two  houses  or  chambers.

Line  6:  So  for  the  United  States  Congress,  that  break  down  into  the  House  of  Representatives

and  the  Senate.

Line  7:  In  the  House  of  representatives  there  are  435  voting  members.

Line  8:  In  the  Senate,  there  are  100.

Line  9:  But  why  are  there  435  in  the  house  and  100  in  the  senate?

Line  10:  In  the  Senate,  it’s  pretty  straight  forward.  Each  state,  regardless  of  population,  has

exactly  two  senators.

Line  11:  So  whether  you’re  California,  with  an  approximate  population  of  38  million  ,  or  NH,  with

roughly  1.3  million,  each  state  has  two  senators  representing  them  in  the  Senate.

Line  12:  With  the  House,  it  gets  a  bit  more  complicated.

Line  13:  But  the  big  thing  to  know  is  that  the  number  of  representatives  per  state  is  proportionate

to  population,  which  is  the  opposite  of  what  we  see  over  on  the  House  side.

Line  14:  Since  1913,  the  House  has  been  set  at  435  members  (except  for  a  brief  period  whenAlaska  &  Hawaii  became  states).

Line  15:  While  that  number  has  been  consistent  for  the  past  100  years,  how  the  Congressional

seats  are  apportioned  can  change  based  on  state  populations.

Line  16:  This  is  one  of  the  main  reasons  why  every  10  years  in  the  US,  the  government

publishes  a  new  census.  It  helps  to  make  sure  that  each  state  has  proper  representation  in  the
