event.

Members of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department donated their services and

funds for the Seventh Annual Bryant Joseph Christmas in the Community in De-

cember. Dozens of volunteers, including the Honor Guard and recent deputy

academy graduates, joined forces to help bring joy to families in need. The group

gathered at El Centro College’s West Campus to sort and package all donations

collected by volunteers in the department. This community outreach program al-

lows the Dallas Sheriff’s Department an opportunity to serve a segment of the

community which goes forgotten during the holiday season. The annual goal is to

help provide a memorable Christmas for over 100 families.

Season’s greetings! We’ve made it through another successful year. 2015 will

bring even greater things for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department. I want to

thank everyone who made the Bryant Joseph Christmas in the Community event

another great success. It’s always nice to see so many community volunteers

come together for this celebration and put a smile on so many children’s faces

during the holiday season.

Pictured here: Clips from the December 20th community holiday event. The Bryant Joseph Christmas in the Community event began as a small gathering to help keep alive the legacy of former DISD middle school principal Joseph Bryant. He served as principal at Fred F. Florence Middle School where he turned the school from unacceptable academic status to exemplary academic status in three years. The New Orleans native’s life was cut short after suffering a heart attack. Bryan’s motto “It takes a village to raise a child” continues to live through this community event.

Kays Detention Facility (South Tower). She oversees the training of new hires

who handle the care, custody and control of inmates. Calhoun served as acting

ty. She began her career with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department in 1997.

December 2014 – Lieutenant Fonda Boyd

Lieutenant Fonda Boyd serves as Day Watch Commander for the North Tower.

Her work ethic and professionalism has earned her this supervisory role, over-

seeing the largest of the three housing facilities.

Boyd served on the 2014 American Jail Association Conference committee

She serves on the honor guard and during the holiday season assists with the

preparations of the Annual Bryant Joseph Christmas in the Community event.

It is a reminder for drivers to avoid drinking and driving during the holidays, a TxDOT statewide campaign. Chief Marian Brown and Sgt.
