Behaviorist Pro• The behaviorist Pro app would be
able to collect spider feeding behavior data and then return graphical and tabular data. The app could also display experimental runs and graphs.
• The purpose of this app is to track the behavior of predators based on a video of their prey.
App User Audience
This app would be used by students, teachers/professors and researchers that are involved in science classes and as well as research. High School Classes could include AP Biology,
research classes and other inquiry-based classes. College courses and research could also find this
app useful.
Why It Matters and Marketing:
Helps with understanding behavior's role in the direction of evolution
Human Benefit: Behavioral research can contribute to medical and evolution research
Help with animal conservation efforts Help understand the effect of biological mechanisms Can be marketed towards biologists, zoologists,
researchers, teachers/professors, and students Unique – No other smart phone applications similar exist
App Alignment
This App aligns with the Education Verizon Foundation Focus Area.
It is also aligned with STEM: Science: Biology/Behavior Technology: Use of a smartphone to record and
analyze behavior data Engineering: Design of a new use of a
smartphone for science Math: Use of statistics and graphing to analyze
data
Story Board 1:
User selects initial test sequence number and insect video of their choice
User enters spider’s identification number and other pertinent information
Story Board 2: Smartphone is placed in chamber with spider.
Story Board 3: Smartphone App plays video and records spider behavior during test period. Smartphone counts number of lunges/minute.
Story Board 4:
User removes smart phoneThen user enters next spider’s
identification number and pertinent information
Story Board 5:
User continues with next test sequence repeating
steps 1 through 4
for next spider
Story Board 6:
User requests App to produce descriptive statistics
Story Board 7: Smartphone displays spreadsheet showing raw data.Date Test
