October 13, 2019 - TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday, a day when we celebrate
the truth that we Catholics are “bap7zed and sent” to be
missionaries in our own lives and also to the na7ons.

Catholics worldwide are asked to recommit as missionaries
through prayer, par7cipa7on in the Eucharist and suppor7ng
the charitable needs of more than 1,100 mission dioceses and
countless other missions overseen by religious communi7es and
lay organiza7ons in the neediest places. Your prayers and
sacrificial gi"s will bring both prac%cal help and God’s love
where people face food uncertainty and violence, or where
local clergy and their parishioners face martyrdom. As God’s
people, we use this opportunity to help extend the Kingdom of
God on earth.

Acts of kindness, including a daily remembrance of others in
prayer, ought to be the way we live. In the days prior to his
death this past July 26th, my own dad, Graham, a convert to the
faith, whispered to me, “every second counts”. I understood
this to mean that we should use our 7me and personal gi@s and
talents to help bring joy to all people placed in our path by God.
I invited you to respond to our missionary call by giving
generously to the collec7on for the Society for the Propaga%on
of the Faith on World Mission Sunday. You will find a special
stewardship envelope in your parish packet marked “ World
Mission Sunday” or you may send your gi@ directly to my aDen-
7on at the Pon7fical Mission Socie7es, Diocese of Metuchen.

The message of World Mission Sunday is a fresh and meaningful
today as for people of every age since the coming of our Savior,
Jesus Christ. I thank you for all you do on World Mission Sunday
and throughout the year in helping “bring the Gospel to
all” (Mark 16:15).
In Christ Jesus Our Lord,
Reverend John G. Hillier, Diocesan Director

Dear parishioners,
In the Gospel of the Healing of the Lepers
Jesus comments, “None but this foreigner
returned to give thanks.” God is aware of a
thankful heart. A thankful heart does not have
room for complaining. Everything
becomes a gift. We are entering into harvest
time, which is a season of gratitude. Gratitude is a way of showing our need for God, for every good gift comes from
his hands. We are dependent upon God for everything, though at times we live our lives with little thought of him, for-
getting even at times to thank Him for the food before us. The first thing we should give thanks for is salvation in Jesus
Christ, for by his bloodshed he has redeemed the world. The second aspect of thankfulness is that is shows our need
for one another. We are helped by others along the way. A note of thanks means a lot to our brothers and sisters and
is a source of encouragement for them. Though many do not expect thanks it opens our heart to be more human,
more giving and loving.
Thank you for being good parishioners, for your love and devotion. And above all for your patience and commitment to
help our parish grow in true Christian charity. Thank you for your presence at Mass when we offer the Eucharist,
Eucharistos” (eu=Good; charis, grace, favor) means to show grace and favor, or in other words to “give thanks.”
What better way to offer thanks is there than to gather around the Altar of the Lord.
With a thankful heart,
Fr. David
