Two of music history’s greatest heroes, Brahms and Beethoven, share a special bond. Brahms is said to have felt a deep influence from the works of Beethoven, the consummate symphonic master. Brahms’ glorious Violin Concerto is brought to life by the brilliant violinist Robert Uchida alongside Beethoven’s Eroica, which our Maestro considers perhaps the greatest symphony ever written.
Avan Yu returns to perform Rachmaninoff’s first piano concerto in what will be his third performance in our Rachmaninoff cycle. Beethoven’s fourth symphony takes us from the depths of uncertainty and despair to a joyous revelation and release, with some of his most lyrical writing along the way.

This concert features two radical and remarkably contrasting views on the love of nature. Stravinsky presents a raw, unfiltered worship and sacrifice to the earth in his tremendous Rite of Spring while Beethoven’s sixth symphony, The Pastoral, is a sublime love letter to the countryside.

Wagner referred to Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 as the “apotheosis of the dance.” No argument here! It is lively, rhythmic, and energetic. We add to the excitement of the seventh symphony with Michael Conway Baker’s kinetic Harp Concerto along with the extraordinary rhythm and flair of Marquez’s Danzon No. 2.
