Beech Green Primary School “Believe Grow Persevere Succeed” Newsletter for Wednesday 21 st March 2018 Dear Parents and Carers, I thought the World Book Day, snow and an early finish was the most exciting day ever at Beech Green, but this week has surpassed all previous weeks and it’s not over yet! Easter Raffle tickets went on sale on Monday, please look out for people selling tickets in school. On Tuesday, we welcomed some of the residents from Chestnut Court to join in with Boogie Beat and Year 1. Our children were incredible, so compassionate and thoughtful towards the older people; there is more information in the article below. Everyone was especially happy all day on Tuesday, although Beech Green is generally full of fun. In fact, one of my former colleagues came to visit this week. I was able to proudly show her around our school; she was particularly impressed with the ethos, the positive behaviour and friendliness of children who welcomed her into their classrooms, and the quality of the work. I have been visiting classes this week and have been so impressed with how hard the children work. There is a lot of effort being put in to their work; levels of concentration are high and children are rightly proud of what they know and can do. This is not an accident: the adults and children have worked hard to create such a good place to be. There are of course times when things don’t work as well. We are all human and do make mistakes. It is vital that you come and talk to us if anything is bothering you at all. Please do talk to teachers in the first instance, but if needed our complaints policy is available on the school website. Wednesday morning started with a lively wake and shake – thank you to all the brave adults who joined in. Finally we have Beech Green’s Got Talent to look forward to on Friday, I can’t wait! As always look out for photos and pieces of work on Twitter Julie Poulson @beech_green International Day of Happiness Yesterday, the whole of Beech Green celebrated the International Day of Happiness with a day full of fun and cultural experiences. Across the school, children were enhancing their knowledge and understanding of the world (one of the school's Key Drivers) by learning about their year group's chosen country. The school got together to learn about the most important ingredients for living a happy life and sang "If you're happy and you know it" in French! Many year groups tried native cuisine: Year 4 enjoyed a "Smorgasbord" full of traditional Swedish Treats, including the amazing Korv (sausage) and herrings in mustard sauce! The teachers were impressed by how many types of food the children tried and actually liked! In Reception, the children tasted Dutch Edam cheese and "poffertjes" which are small pancakes. All of the children had a go at learning some words or phrases in their chosen country's language: Year 6 learnt how to say "I am happy" and "You are my friend" in Danish, as well as learning how to count and some other basic words. Have a look at Classboard and Twitter for more fantastic pictures of what the children got up to.

Newsletter for Wednesday 21st

March 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

I thought the World Book Day, snow and an early finish was the most exciting day ever at Beech Green,

but this week has surpassed all previous weeks and it’s not over yet! Easter Raffle tickets went on sale

on Monday, please look out for people selling tickets in school. On Tuesday, we welcomed some of the

residents from Chestnut Court to join in with Boogie Beat and Year 1. Our children were incredible, so

compassionate and thoughtful towards the older people; there is more information in the article below.

Everyone was especially happy all day on Tuesday, although Beech Green is generally full of fun. In fact,

one of my former colleagues came to visit this week. I was able to proudly show her around our school;

she was particularly impressed with the ethos, the positive behaviour and friendliness of children who

welcomed her into their classrooms, and the quality of the work. I have been visiting classes this week

and have been so impressed with how hard the children work. There is a lot of effort being put in to

their work; levels of concentration are high and children are rightly proud of what they know and can

do. This is not an accident: the adults and children have worked hard to create such a good place to be.

There are of course times when things don’t work as well. We are all human and do make mistakes. It

is vital that you come and talk to us if anything is bothering you at all. Please do talk to teachers in the

first instance, but if needed our complaints policy is available on the school website.

Wednesday morning started with a lively wake and shake – thank you to all the brave adults who joined

in. Finally we have Beech Green’s Got Talent to look forward to on Friday, I can’t wait!

International Day of Happiness Yesterday, the whole of Beech Green celebrated the

International Day of Happiness with a day full of fun and

cultural experiences. Across the school, children were

enhancing their knowledge and understanding of the world

(one of the school's Key Drivers) by learning about their

year group's chosen country. The school got together to

learn about the most important ingredients for living a

happy life and sang "If you're happy and you know it" in

French!

Many year groups tried native cuisine: Year 4 enjoyed a

"Smorgasbord" full of traditional Swedish Treats, including

the amazing Korv (sausage) and herrings in mustard

sauce! The teachers were impressed by how many types of food the children tried and actually liked! In

Reception, the children tasted Dutch Edam cheese and "poffertjes" which are small pancakes.

All of the children had a go at learning some words or phrases in their chosen country's language: Year 6

learnt how to say "I am happy" and "You are my friend" in Danish, as well as learning how to count and

some other basic words.

Have a look at Classboard and Twitter for more fantastic pictures of what the children got up to.

singing songs, telling stories and playing instruments together. A very happy time was had by all.

Sport Relief at Beech Green – Wednesday 21st

March 2108 Thank you everyone who took part in our whole school Wake and Shake session for Sport Relief this

morning. It was a great start to the day and very well led by our new Beech Green Play Leaders.

It was great to see the children and staff wearing the kit of the

sport or activity that they take part in outside of school. The

School Council is putting together a list and will let you know how

many different sports there were. The School Council led an

assembly for the whole school this morning, to ensure everyone

knows about the charity they are raising money for and the work

that they do. Well done School Council, you did really well.

The Day Of The Dinosaur Amazingly on Thursday something exciting happened. Two men came to school to teach us about

dinosaurs. First we watched videos and listened to music. Next we saw a dinosaur hatch and his name

was Nibbles. There were some other baby dinosaurs too. Trixie had big horns on her nose and on her

forehead. Some were so cute we couldn’t believe our eyes. After a while we saw a T-Rex! The T-Rex

roared but we weren’t frightened. We saw fossils so we could learn more about dinosaurs. It was

totally awesome because we got to stroke a T-Rex! We were full of joy.

Marathon Run For Maggies – Supporting Those Affected by Cancer My name is Victoria and I’m a year 6 parent and I have the HUGE challenge of running the London

Marathon this April! I’m running for the charity Maggies in Cheltenham, who provide practical,

emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.

This is my first marathon (and possibly my last!) and when I found out I had secured a place my son

Harry, asked how long it would take me - after explaining that it would be a good few hours, Harry has

decided to support me from home!

So we thought it’ll be a nice idea to get his friends and parents involved in raising a few pennies - Harry

and myself will be in the school reception on Thursday from 2:45pm, if your child would like to take part

in “guess how many sweets are in the jar”and purchase a cake, please pop by and say “hi”.
