Sponsored by LT United Methodist Church, Lakeway Church, and Emmaus Catholic Parish. Call 512-791-5174 for registration forms and further information. LTYA GIRLS SOFTBALL ALL S TARS In July, for the first time, LakeTravis Youth Association (LTYA) Girls Softball sent five all star teams to the Texas Pony Softball Sectional double-elimination Tournament at Oak Hill to compete against other area softball teams for a chance to compete at Regions and Nationals in Round Rock. The LTYA Softball teams included Shetland all stars (ages 5-6), Pinto all stars (ages 7-8), Mustang all stars (ages 9-10), Bronco all stars (ages 11-12), and Pony all stars (ages 13-14). Unlike regular season play where the girls typically play two games per week and only one game per game day, tournament play requires multiple games per day on back-to-back days. Further, the teams are assembled from the best players during the regular season, raising the level of competition and presenting new challenges for the players. Though the tournaments represented a new experience for many of the players, the LTYA Girls Softball program was well-represented by the sportsmanship and competitive spirit of the players who competed in the Sectional Tournament. The Shetland and Bronco all star teams won enough games to advance to the Regional Tournament in Kyle, Texas. At the Regional tournament, both the Shetland and the Bronco teams experienced setbacks. However, the Shetland all star team won enough games to advance to the National Tournament in Round Rock at the end of July. At the National Tournament, the LTYA Shetland All Stars defeated rival Oak Hill’s All Star team during pre-tournament round robin play, but suffered losses in the first two games of bracket play. Congratulations to all of the LTYA Girls Softball all star teams. LTYA Fall registration is now open for girls softball until August 29, 2010. This season LTYA will also offer an Advanced Recreational program which will offer the players an opportunity to compete against select teams and in some tournaments. After reading Hour of the Olympics, the Magic Tree House Book Club participants competed in relays, and made togas

and medals out of newspapers and paper plates for their Olympic medal ceremony.

Every child who turned in reading logs of at least 400 minutes had their photo taken for a poster that is displayed on the library wall

throughout the summer.

Mackenzie McLeod picks up her personal poster from library

staffer Laurie Works, while her parents and teen volunteer

Tiffany Peraud look on.Joshua Thar proudly points out his

poster hanging in the library.

Adults and teens turned in more than 800 “review tickets” for a chance to win one of the many prizes donated by area merchants for the Adult and Teen

Summer Reading Programs this year.
