Becoming Jane “My characters shall have, after a little trouble, all that they desire.” Times are as harsher as they can be for a woman; everything seems to be unreachable without money as money means happiness and love has no value. What will be the destiny of the young, dreamy writer? Young Jane Austen is a feisty(energica, activa) 20 year-old and emerging writer who already sees a world beyond class and commerce, beyond pride and prejudice, and dreams of doing what was then nearly unthinkable - marrying for love. Her wish to be a writer seems inappropriate to her parents, who believe a woman should marry and only do the housework. Both parents try to find her a suitable match and succeed. They find the perfect, wealthy, well-appointed husband to assure their daughter's future social standing: Mr. Wisley, nephew to the very formidable, not to mention very rich, local aristocrat Lady Gresham. Naturally, when Jane meets the roguish and decidedly non- aristocratic Tom Lefroy, sparks soon fly along with the sharp repartee (darul replicii amuzante). His intellect and arrogance intrigue her and knock her head over heels, which makes her realize she has to turn down the affections of Mr. Wisley, convinced that the only way to live a happy life is marrying for love. Not willing to ruin the movie for you, the end will be a surprise. Enjoy! I’ll be waiting for your opinion on it!
