BECOME THEINFLUENCER

– How to Build a Black Future Child

Page 2: Become The Influencer – How to Build a Black Future Child

In the last two lessons, we identified key

qualifications to a Black Future child:

empowered, educated, and entrepreneurial. In

this lesson, we look at what these skills really

mean and how to develop them in your home.

Even if you lack some of these skills, you are

still an influencer in your child’s life. Lets look

at some good and bad parent influences.

In a college decision-making study, 58% of

students indicated that their parents were

extremely influential in their decision to

choose a college.

“Children of obese parents are more likely to

be overweight themselves” (2015, Obesity.org).

As you can see, intentionally or not, you

influence your child. Now lets see how you can

encourage them to be empowered, educated,

and entrepreneurial.

EMPOWERED

“Just because you are a lady don't be afraid to step up to any challenge and not

be a victim but a hero... Always listen to your superhero inner voice.” (2015,

Serena William’s Facebook post). Do you remember when a guy stole Serena

William’s phone right out of her hand? Her instincts told her to chase him

down and ask for her phone back. She calls her bold actions her superhero

powers and encouraged her fans (and all women) to be empowered by their

inner strengths.

EDUCATED

This is a tough one. This is probably why you are taking this course. We can’t

paint a broad brush over how to educate your child, but we can suggest ways

to turn your home into a learning environment. It starts by being a role model

for learning

ENTREPRENEURIAL

Entrepreneurial skills are not just about starting or running a successful

business. In fact, companies that want to scale look for candidates with

entrepreneurial skills. And companies are always trying to grow. The other

benefit of instilling entrepreneurial skills at a young age is self-reliance. When

the recession hit, entrepreneur kids camps flourished because parents wanted

their kids to be able to thrive in less desirable economic situations.

WRAP UP Empowered, educated, entrepreneurial. Three words that start with E and

end with a Black Future Child. As a parent, you are a strong influencer,

which is why must become a student to learn how to develop these qualities.

Just remember, a child with these qualities could be the next Shonda Rhimes

or Tristian Walker.
