Cosmetic science is a fascinating intersection of the disciplines of chemistry, physics, biology, physiology, and psychology. By integrating these fundamental areas, cosmetic science is able to advance our basic understanding of personal care and beauty, and the application of cosmetic science continually drives innovation across a wide range of markets and product categories.
The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) is a vibrant community of members actively working for finished goods houses, raw material suppliers, academic institutions, government, contract manufacturing, and consulting companies. Membership in the Society provides access to a network of industry and subject matter experts.
WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN
“ The main benefit I derive from being an SCC member is the networking opportunities with everyone in the industry and beyond. These networks have afforded me the chance to learn new chemistry, methods and approaches that I have applied directly to my work over the years.” Kenneth Kyte Senior Scientist, Shave Care (Procter & Gamble) Member since 1992
“ Being a member of the SCC has given me the opportunity to interact with various colleagues in the industry and has allowed me to share experiences and exchange knowledge with them. The friends I have made and professional contacts I have met through the SCC have even helped my business flourish.” Gilberto Amparo CEO/Founder (Color Design Laboratory Inc.) Member since 2002
“ Attending events like the SCC New York Chapter Suppliers’ Days and the SCC National Annual Scientific Meeting have helped me make great connections in the industry. My SCC membership has given me an opportunity to meet and learn from a plethora of leading industry experts.” Kayla Ivey Product Development Associate Scientist, Leave-On Products (GOJO Industries, Inc.) Member since 2016

ABOUT THE NEXTGEN INITIATIVE:The NextGen initiative was launched in 2015 by the Society of Cosmetic Chemists to address the needs of early careerists, young professionals and undergraduate/post-graduate students in the cosmetics and personal care industry. The initiative consists of special education, networking and other events specifically designed to assist the “next generation” of formulators, innovators, and ground-breakers in the industry.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEXTGEN PROGRAM INCLUDE:l Relationships with more than 20 higher
education institutions worldwide that have a focus on cosmetic chemistry and related degrees.
l A full track of sessions at the Annual Scientific Meeting dedicated to NextGen focused topics.
l Continuing education courses held throughout the year, designed to address what early careerists and those new to the industry need to know now.
l Significantly discounted student and junior member access fees to local and national events.
l Career development programs, including opportunities to personally connect with potential employers in all facets of the industry – from finished goods houses to material suppliers and contract manufacturers to regulatory agencies.
l National and local chapter opportunities for students to present their research and scientific posters to industry leaders, some of which are afforded scholarships or prizes.
l Opportunities to meet industry and subject matter experts in every aspect of the cosmetics and personal care industry including academia, government, testing/claims professionals, formulators, consultants, legal and insurance specialists, and more.
“ The SCC Career Development Day was an excellent opportunity for us to meet and interact with bright, new talent about to begin their cosmetic industry careers, and to see if any of these young individuals would be a good fit for our company. The format of the Career Day allowed us to spend quite a bit of time with each person, to find out more about them and their aspirations, resulting in a long list of prospective candidates to discuss with our team back in the office. I highly recommend this event and will be glad to participate again next year.” Benjamin Blinder; Gattefossé
“ The SCC has opened many doors for me in my future career as a cosmetic chemist. I have been able to connect with various professionals, attend scientific meetings and conferences, and learn more about the cosmetic science industry as a whole. Not to mention the outstanding SCC Career Development Day - where I was able to speak with representatives from the graduate programs and hear from companies in the industry that gave me insight and allowed me to judge if it was a good fit for me in the future. I would very much recommend it to any student interested in cosmetic science.” Najay Brown; Florida State University Class of 2020
