There are actually more female magistrates than male
magistrates (around 50.6 % are female). So any women
wanting to be a magistrate shouldn’t be out of thinking it’s a
guys club!
Sadly, only 8% of magistrates are from an ethnic minority. The
Magistrates today need more diversity from different ethnic
backgrounds!
Under 30s are suffering the most, with a tiny percentage of only
0.37% serving as magistrates!!
Shockingly the highest percentages of age range of magistrates
is over 60s at 57.14% …. Even though they are going to retire
in 10 years or less

There are a group of people called the Magisterial Committee who
ensure sufficient training is given to the magistrate. They also make
sure the clerks have got the training to supervise within the courts.
