It can stand alone as a qualification in dog training, which will suit those who already have a Cert IV in a related field. Alternatively, those wishing to achieve a full Cert IV can study the additional units through TAFE NSW, over a further semester (20 weeks), at an additional fee of $492. The course will focus on the science of learning and behaviour and the ability to apply it humanely; resulting in a greater understanding of the human/dog bond and various strategies to enhance it. It will explore a wide range of training techniques and equipment. Aims: To give students the skills to improve the plight of the dog in our society by constructively modifying dog behaviour in order to reduce the numbers of dogs being surrendered and euthanised and to successfully rehabilitate surrendered dogs to loving homes. To provide students with a solid basis of education for a career in dog behaviour and training. Delivery: programme will be delivered by Steve and Vicki Austin over eight weeks, a total of 96 hours made up of 48 hours of classroom study at the TAFE Ultimo Campus, 6:00 to 9:30 pm on Wednesday and Thursdays; and 48 hours of practical sessions at Royal Rover, licensed boarding kennels at Bringelly, 10:00 am to 5:30 pm on Saturdays.
