Training as a Chartered Accountant although is a hard field of study, it opens up vast array of career opportunities in every sector of business and finance, both in India and Internationally. Chartered training is a combination of innovative education and mentored work experience. The end result is accountants with a greater ability to analyze and interpret business problems are produced. This is why they rise further and faster into more diverse and important roles in organizations.Starting up a CA course in India mainly involve passing three level of examinations prescribed by ICAI (Institutes of Chartered Accountant of India). They include,

Common Proficiency Test (CPT) Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) Final Examination

In order to give the CPT, you have to enroll with the ICAI after passing your 10th std or 12th std. The test however can be taken up only post completion of 12th. However, if you wish to enter CA course through direct entry (without cpt), you must be a graduate or a post-graduate with minimum of 55% in commerce field and 60% in any other field.Post CPT, you then join IPCC. In order to appear for IPC examination, you must have passed the CPT or fulfill the above mentioned criteria for direct entry. IPCC registration has to be done 9 months prior the examination. You also need to complete 100 hrs of Information Technology Training (ITT). Further details on ITT can be gathered at the ICAI website.

IPC exams consist of two groups, out of which you have to pass at least one group to proceed to the next level, Articleship. This period lasts for a total of 3 years, where the last year includes industrial training. This practical training is instrumental in shaping a well-rounded skilled individual. You will be paid a stipend during this period.Lastly comes the CA Final Examination. Here, you should have passed both rounds of IPCE and also completed 2 ½ years of articleship. Once you’ve passed the final examination, you can enroll as a member of ICAI and be designated as “Chartered Accountant”.Post becoming a Chartered Accountant, you have various career options yo can choose from. These involve, choosing your own independent practice, job at existing CA firms, joining govt services, practice in any foreign nation, and many more.Since CA is no easy course to undertake, it is essential to analyze if you have the right aptitude for it. There are several courses available that prepare you for the entrance exams. Make sure you research well prior applying.
