SNAPSHOTS of Ministry and life here in the North Country

MINISTERING TO A NEW LOCAL PASTORWhile visiting a local Florist, Dan struck up a friendship with the owner. Kevin is a follower of Christ and desired to go into ministry. We had Kevin over for breakfast before his shop opened and fellowshipped. Since that first meal, we have met Kevin’s family for dinner at their house. It has grown into a wonderful friendship.

Recently, Kevin was appointed as pastor of a local church. Kevin sends Dan his messages to read through and offer suggestions and encouragement.

NEW HOME AND NEIGHBORSWhile many have heard of our unfortunate mold issues in our house, God used it to fulfill a long-held dream of being able to live on base. We had a week-and-a-half to pack and move from one place to another. We are excited that now we live on post. We are closer to the chapel and friends. It affords greater access to minister. Dan and Lily went around to the neighbors and handed a plate of cookies to meet them. While many didn’t open the doors, some did, and they had good conversations.

OH, THE WINTER WEATHERWhile I would have enjoyed much more snow, we have had a harsh winter with many ministry night cancellations. Many folks become stuck at home, and that is when loneliness and

depression set in. While we have talked to many about how they are doing, it’s been essential for us to be proactive and reach out to those who are struggling. Would you join us in praying for our soldiers, youth, and their families?

FOOD, MEETINGS, AND PLAY-DATESWe have enjoyed getting to know many families and students over the past months. We have broken bread with many people in our house along with meeting folks for coffee. There are many hurts, and struggles, and it is an honor to introduce them to Jesus and to watch Him redeem some of those hurts.

Lily and I have also loved getting to know ladies while having play dates. Lily has enjoyed meeting new kids while I enjoy ministering and encouraging moms. I am co-facilitating a small group of ladies at PWOC (Protestant Women of the Chapel) in the book study Mom Set Free.

PWOC BOARDI was asked to consider co-leading the Leadership Selection Position on the local PWOC board. I am excited to share the responsibilities with a dear friend of mine. We will be looking through the applications and prayerfully selecting ladies for the board next year. I have done this two other times, while in Korea, so I was excited to be asked again. Please be in prayer for this time as we seek the Lord for next years, ladies.

PRECDan has settled into his role at the chapel. It was a bumpy first few months, but he’s gotten into a rhythm. The contract renews in June. Dan is growing in many aspects with coordinating the Chapel Kids ministry and the youth group.

God has truly been moving in the Chapel, and it is such a blessing to be a part of such a wonderful community of believers. Pray as Dan serves without any position or title.

KNEE AND SURGERY UPDATEJanuary 22, I had two meniscus tears fixed in my left knee. I had a few weeks of recouping and getting back on my feet. I have had physical therapy since the surgery and have felt really good. Unfortunately, with the move, it aggravated my knee, and it began to act up again, but with rest after the unpacking, it started to return to normal again. Please continue to pray for healing and energy as I continue to build it up again.

DAN DISCIPLESA mom came up to Dan and asked if he would meet with her son. The son was recently suspended, and they wanted him to unpack what happened with someone. Dan jumped at the chance to disciple a young man. What a joy it has been seeing Jesus meet them and break new ground.

WORSHIP TEAMDan and I are leading worship on Sunday nights at the Cadence House. Recently we changed the model to encourage others to help. We open our home Friday night for dinner and then practice for worship on Sunday. We have had many great conversations.

FINALLY, WE NEED YOUWe have two opportunities for you to help minister for youth soldiers and families here at Fort Drum.

First: We have dropped in monthly support, and we need to regain what has been lost. Currently, we are somewhere around $1,500/month below support. What does this mean?

We need folks to come on our team at $25, $50, $75, or $100 a month. Would you prayerfully consider joining us in reaching Fort Drum for Christ?

Second: I will be helping to coordinate a women’s retreat that will be held May 3–4. We can use your help with goodie bags. If you or your church would like to help, please send items such as Chapstick, journals, pens, candles, snacks or other things to help fill goodie bags. In addition, please include a note of encouragement for these ladies. We expect to have fifty or more ladies in attendance. I need to receive items by April 26.
