Since 1967 the DBS model has of fered the ult imate combination of raw power and luxury, while Superleggera highlight s the lightweight construction techniques f irs t pioneered on the DB4 back in 1959. DBS Super leg gera of fers the absolute essence of Aston Mar t in, a car where exquisite beauty, untold luxury and brutal per formance born from an addic t ive combinat ion of power and lightness, are combined to make a proposit ion as ent icing as it is unique.

For now, this uncompromised Aston Martin DBS Super leg gera comes in t wo dis t inc t forms: the Coupe or the Volante. Two dis t inc t charac ter s uni ted by the same undeniable ident i t y and powered by Aston Mar t in’s monumental home-grown 5.2- li t re, twin turbo V12 engine.

The Volante name was f ir s t coined in 1965 for a DB5-based conver t ible. To DBS Superleggera, i t br ing s a third dimension, where raw power and beauty are now joined by the thril l of open-air motoring. Retaining all the s t yle of the DBS Superleggera and combining it with class- leading conver t ible technology, has created not jus t Aston Mar t in’s fas tes t ever Volante, but a landmark in conver t ible design.

Superleggera – in Italian it means super lightweight and when Aston Martins of the 1960s were styled by Tour ing of Milan, i t re fer red to a speci f ic cons t ruc t ion technique. Today the term i s a l l encompassing and def ines an ent ire engineering approach that reaches deep down into the body of the car.

There you will f ind a s t ruc ture made of aluminium that has been bonded together to ensure it is both light and immensely strong. The entire bonnet – the largest single piece clamshell in production to date, i s craf ted ent irely f rom Carbon Fibre not jus t to reduce weight but simultaneously to help produce opt imal front to rear weight dis t r ibut ion. The front spli t ter and rear di f fuser have also been craf ted out of Carbon Fibre, with the addit ional opt ion of a full Carbon Fibre roof for the DBS Coupe to add the ult imate aesthet ic touch.

Aston Mar t in has been designing Volantes for over 50 year s and open car s for over a centur y. But this Volante is the most powerful, purposeful and fastest in our history, while retaining all of the uncompromised appeal and presence of DBS Superleggera.

It s lines f low so ef for t lessly with the roof in posit ion that in silhouet te it could well be mis taken for it s Coupe sibling. With the roof lowered (in 14 seconds and at speeds of up to 31mph), i t possesses one of the most svelte shapes to grace a conver t ible car. This i s made possible by a roof that , despite no fewer than eight layers of insulat ion, folds behind the rear seat s to create an invisible ‘s tack’ allowing the l ines to f low uninterrupted and creat ing an open-top work of ar t without concession to i t s conver t ib le design.

The Volante comes with a range of possibili t ies to make DBS Super leg gera unique. The roof i s avai lab le in eight di f ferent co lour s wi th the windscreen pil lar in either body colour, black or Carbon Fibre. The unique wais t-rail around the tonneau cover is available in both dark and bright anodised f inishes, while the tonneau it self can be leather or Carbon Fibre.

When a car is capable of 211mph, aerodynamics are every thing. Which is why all of the aerodynamic devices on DBS Superleggera are not merely for the sake of appearances but because they have crucial work to do. From the spli t ter at the front , through the li f t- reducing gil l - l ike curlicue at the side, to the Aeroblade II™ wing at the back, the passage of air around the car is carefully guided every inch of the way.

Exhaustive testing in the vir tual world, wind tunnels, tes t t rack s and public roads have made the air the ser vant to the car. I t i s corral led, cont rol led and div ided into working groups, some to feed the engine, some to cool the brakes but mos t to preserve the front to rear aerodynamic balance of the car regardless of speed.

The Volante provides an additional challenge, where the wind must also be managed in order to minimise dis turbance in the cockpit with the roof down, while s t i l l ret aining the phenomenal downforce characterist ics of DBS Superleggera. This is achieved, with up to 177kg of downforce available, jus t 3kg less than that achieved by the Coupe.

This is the most power ful Aston Mar t in engine ever to be put into series production. An all alloy

V12 engine with 5.2- li t res, four camshaf t s and48 valves, and a s i f that were not enough,
