Motion by Fahrner, supported by Wilson, regarding Board of Appeal#3-93 regarding Request for Variance in Required Rear YardSetback - William Wordman, 1147 Hawthorne, that the City Councilconcur with the recommendation of the City Administrator and CodeOfficial and APPROVE the requested variance in accordance withthe Mortgage Report dated February 10, 1993, with the stipulationthat the eaves be repitched toward the front of the property andthat a downspout be added.

The Chair declared a recess at 8:32 p.m. The City Councilreconvened at 8:49 p.m.

Hearing no objection, the Chair directed the item concerningPublic Hearing Regarding request for authority to erect a fourfoot privacy fence along the east and west property lines oftheir rear yard - Robert and Karen McCarthy, 1364 Roslyn, BEADJOURNED until later in tonight's agenda.

Motion by Bidigare, supported by Rice, that the City CouncilACCEPT with regret the resignation of Darby Ditzhazy, 2008Country Club, from the Historical Commission.


Motion by Bidigare, supported by Rice, regarding Request forContribution for the 1993 4th of July Fireworks, that the CityCouncil concur with the recommendation of the City Administratorand APPROVE a contribution of $500.00 to the Mack Avenue U.S.A.Fireworks celebration, and that such be contingent upon receivinga $1 million insurance policy with an A or better rating;

And that the City Council AUTHORIZE police and fire support forthe 1993 4th of July Fireworks.

WHEREAS, as a nation devoted to liberty and justice for all,America must increase its efforts to protect and restorecrime victims rights; and

WHEREAS, all citizens of America must do their part to stopviolence by reporting crimes, by supporting moreequitable sentencing laws, and by refusing to tolerateinjustice in our homes or on our streets; and

WHEREAS, crime victims and those who serve them deserve oursupport for their quest to secure victim justice; and

WHEREAS, a national commitment to violence reduction and victimassistance will help bring criminals to justice, andjustice to victims; and

WHEREAS, the City of Grosse Pointe Woods is joining forces withvictim service programs, criminal justice officials andconcerned citizens throughout Michigan to observe 1993National Crime Victims' Rights Week; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the City of Grosse Pointe Woods designates the weekof April 25 to May 1, 1993 as Grosse Pointe Woods CrimeVictims' Rights Week; and be it further

RESOLVED, that the City council reaffirms its commitment to addressvictims' rights and criminal justice during 1993 GrossePointe Woods Crime Victims' Rights Week and throughoutthe year.

WHEREAS, the future of our community, our state and our nation dependsupon the type of young people we raise to handle the affairs oftomorrow; and

WHEREAS, it is the duty of all citizens, parents and youth organizations todevelop a proper attitude among the young people of ourcommuniry and to provide them with the right examples,environments and opportunities; and

WHEREAS, the purpose of organizing a "National Youth Service Day" is toreinforce in our young Americans the importance and excitementof helping others and in creating a public awareness of the positivecontributions that young people make in the nation's progress; andto link their talents and resources to address some of the majorissues facing our cities -- drug and alcohol abuse, education,hunger and homelessness, and assisting our elderly citizens,- and
