The school clinic will begin the state-mandated vision and hearing screening Wednesday, September 16th.  Students in Kindergarten, First, Third, and Fifth grades will be screened and the process will take several weeks to complete. Parents will be notified if their child fails a screen so they can follow-up with the appropriate doctor. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the school clinic @ 281-356-4771 x2120.

Treasurer’s Note… (continued from front page)

Last year our PTO spent over $51,000 on classroom expenditures, including smart boards, projectors and reimbursing teachers and staff for various classroom needs and we couldn’t have supported Bear Branch Elementary without all of your help! Fundraising last year was incredible - topping $56,000! Our highest grossing fundraiser was the Cookie Dough Fundraiser; we netted over $23,000 with this fundraiser alone! Box Tops, Chick-Fil-A Spirit Nights, Kroger, and various sponsors netted a combined $18,000. Our other fundraisers raised over $15,000 combined and include our Fall Carnival, Holiday Store, Pumpkin Patch, Spirit Den, Spirit Wear and the Yearbook. This year we are already hard at work on fundraisers and would love to have your help! If you are interested, join us at our next meeting or send an email to [email protected].

Thank you for all of your support!

Enjoy FREE pizza & drink while you find out about the program! Our goal is to have you spend at

least one day this year at the school to be a positive male role model and to provide an extra

set of eyes and ears.

Attention all Dads!

Thursday September 10th  6:30-7:30 pm. Don’t Miss It!

Rachel Turnage is 9đ years old, she loves Sonic the Hedgehog, video games, building and creating new inventions and playing Minecraft with her friends Nicholas, Lane, and Lillie. Rachel has lived one amazingly wild and bumpy life. She has accomplished more in her 9đ years then most will achieve in a lifetime. At the young age of 3, Rachel was diagnosed with leukemia, a blood cancer. After a tough 18-month battle, she was in remission and on the way to leaving cancer behind her.  But the leukemia returned in her central nervous system in 2010 and it was time for Rachel to fight again. For 4 years, Rachel battled cancer with dangerously high doses of chemo and radiation. And won. TWICE. She has a radiant smile and wants to be a chemist and inventor when she grows up. She's said that she can't decide which to do first: cure cancer or create an invisibility potion! Unfortunately, growing up is now taking a back seat to fighting for her life again. In June of 2015, Rachel was diagnosed with a rare grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) tumor in the left side of her brain. The very radiation that killed the leukemia and saved her life in 2012 has likely created this cancerous tumor.  The prognosis for this inoperable, aggressive, rapidly growing tumor is dismal. Even with this, there is hope. Please follow our BBES hero: https://www.facebook.com/100009704471854

Grant Wahle was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia on September 20th, 2012. He had just started

pre-k and wasn't feeling well. After a trip to the emergency room, we were sent by ambulance to the medical center in Houston and then to MD

Anderson to begin his treatment. Grant has had many blood transfusions, platelet transfusions, steroids,   lumbar punctures,  various chemotherapy

treatments, a picc line, a port, and countless pokes, doctor visits and daily chemo given at home.  Our lives were literally turned upside down and our

daily routines of going to school, doing homework and making lunches turned into trips to the hospital, getting sick, hair falling out and medication schedules.

Grant should be done with his chemotherapy towards the end of the year and we look forward to celebrating being cancer free!!!  He starts

second grade this year and we are so proud of him. Many of our friends that were battling cancer right along with

us have gone to heaven and it breaks our hearts. We will keep fighting this monster called cancer for them.
