A PRESENTAION ON :

BEAM SUPPORT AND REACTION

BEAMWhat is a beam ?

A beam is a structural element that is capable of withstanding load primarily by resisting bending. And is the horizontal member of a structure, carrying transverse loads

TYPES OF BEAMS

●Simply supported - a beam supported on the ends which are free to rotate and have no moment resistance.

●Fixed - a beam supported on both ends and restrained from rotation.

●Over hanging - a simple beam extending beyond its support on one end.

●Continuous - a beam extending over more than two supports.

●Cantilever - a projecting beam fixed only at one end.●Trussed - a beam strengthened by adding a cable or rod to form a truss.

SIMPLY SUPPORTED BEAM

It is a beam supported freely at the two ends on walls or columns. In actual practice, no beam rests freely on the supports (walls or columns).

FIXED BEAM

In this beam, both ends of the beam are rigidly fixed into the supports. Also, Main reinforcement bars and stirrups are provided.

CANTILEVER BEAM

A cantilever is a beam anchored at only one end. The beam carries the load to the support where it is forced against by a moment and shear stress

OVERHANGING BEAM

In overhanging beam, Its end extends beyond the wall or column support. Overhanging of the beam is the unsupported portion of the beam. It may be one side or both the sides of the support.

CONTINOUS BEAM

A continuous beam is a statically indeterminate multispan beam on hinged support. The end spans may be cantilever, may be freely supported or fixed supported.

TRUSS BEAM

A beam reinforced by a truss rod or formed of straight or cambered pieces joined by trussing

TYPES OF SUPPORT

TYPES OF LOADS

REACTION IN BEAMS

● THE REACTION IN BEAM DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF BEAM AND TYPE OF LOAD ON BEAM AND EVEN ON THE TYPE OF SUPPORT .

SOME BASIC TYPES OF REACTIONS ARE :The reaction at the support on application of UDL,UVL,force and couple

REACTION IN BEAMS

Reaction is always generated at ends of support whether be it force

or be a couple
