Workshop to Prevent Falls in Senior Adults Mondays, 10 am - noon, October 6 - November 17. Falls are the primary cause of injury in older adults. “Stepping On” is an evidence-based 7-week workshop designed to facilitate strategies and exercises to prevent falls in adults over 60. September is Our Church–wide Local Impact Month We invite you to register to serve WITH our neighbors in the area during the month of September.

61st Ave UMC Friday, September 26 and Saturday, October 11 Their playground, which serves as a place of belonging for many children, is over 20 years old, dilapidated and is no longer safe. We will be extracting the current playground and need 30 people to volunteer. On October the 11th we will be unveiling the new playground and have a family friendly clean-up day. Thanks to your

generous support, the playground is fully funded!

Alzheimer’s Support Group The Alzheimer’s Support group exists to provide resources and encouragement for family members, caregivers, and friends of persons with Alzheimer’s Disease and other types of memory loss. The group is led by Dr. William Petrie, who facil-itates the conversation and sharing by those in attendance. For more information, contact Sue Dill, 970-8393, or Barbara Jones, 373-1941.

Sunny Day Club Through social interaction, friendship, and stimulation, the Sunny Day Club pro-vides a caring environment for persons in the early stages of memory loss, while offering respite to their caregivers. Members and volunteers meet for three hours each Tuesday for fun and fellowship, including games, exercise, singing, service projects, and conversation over lunch. Membership dues are $1.00 per week. To register a loved one, contact Rev. Erin Racine, [email protected], 324-7244. Volunteers, particularly men, are needed, and training is provided. To serve in this ministry of care and encouragement, contact Katie Anderson, 370-9467.

Funeral MinistryFuneral Teams provide hospitality to families and guests during visitation and funeral services for their loved ones at BUMC. Each team finds ushers for the service, greets and directs families and guests as they arrive, and ensures that the family is cared for during the visitation and funeral service. Teams serve on a rotating basis and are given training prior to serving. If you would like to serve in this important Caring Ministry, contact Julie Donley, [email protected], 324-7254.

Grief CareIn partnership with Alive Hospice, BUMC offers grief support groups 4 times per year. The next group will meet on Thursday nights from 5:30-7:30 pm beginning October 2. This 8-week group is not loss specific. It is open to anyone who has lost a loved one within the past two years. Pre-registration by phone required.
