The guests were delighted and thoroughly appreciated the hospi- tality and were inspired by the talk about the Gullah Heritage by Emory Campbell and the exhibit of Peace Posters. We were pleased that our District Executive Annette Marquis was present and pleas- antly surprised to find that among our distinguished guests were the parents of the Governor of South Carolina. The next week and after the IARF we were especially inspired by the sermon given by the Rev. Lynn Gar- ner on the education of Martin Luther King, Jr. I’ll see if I can get copy of it and make it available. On Saturday the 18 th our annual silent auction and dinner was an outstanding success. Dan Tweel pro- vided intense labor and exceptional leadership in making the event successful. Les Lowenstein assem- bled and published in an incredibly short time the catalog of the auction items. Preliminary reports in- dicate the event was a financial success. Those who attended will not forget how enjoyable it was. Even though many of our members and friends were exhausted at the end of Saturday evening, they still showed up for the Sunday Service! From the com- ments expressed after the service devoted to the in- terdependent web of all existence I believe that those exhausted persons actually were awake throughout the service! ~ Rev. Dr Ajit Randhawa speaking to Gordon and Dan Valerie Dr Ajit Randhawa and Raj Randhawa the Governorrsquos parents and guest

On Saturday February 4th UUCL was supposed to host a reception in our Church building for Rev Dr Peter Morales President of the Unitarian Universalist Association He was listed as the keynote speaker at the International Association for Religious Freedom Conference being held on the Island We were all looking forward to this time with him and we had also lined up (or so we thought) some Gullah singers and dancers as entertainment Well the short story is this Rev Morales became ill at the last minute and could not attend the Conference and then the Gullah group found that they had over-extended themselves and were unable to come So what do you do when that happens In this case a number of the people at the conference came to visit anyway and we enjoyed drinks and fin-ger foods and a very interesting talk by Emory Campbell well known Gullah historian
