BHA OFFICE UPDATE:

The Beacon Housing Authority (BHA) in

conjunction with the BHA Women’s

Group is introducing a program to

engage residents in activities which will

alleviate loneliness and isolation. The

goal of this program is to provide social

safe distancing but allow opportunities

for residents to still communicate and

connect with neighbors and friends.

Being alone can make it tough to stay

mentally engaged especially if you are

without a spouse or partner. The

following activities are designed to

encourage mental engagement:

Free email subscriptions to online Health newsletters dedicated to seniors and senior living i.e. Daily Caring

Crossword Puzzles and Word Games

Using Audio Books for Story Hour and/or Book Club

Dropping off small gifts on a quarterly basis centered around holidays in that respective quarter

Sending cards to residents Birthday Club (monthly birthday

will be printed in newsletter with a card being sent to resident)

Partnering with church and community agencies to explore social and educational opportunities

Regular “Hello, how you are doing calls”

This program will be phased in during the month of November 2020. Get ready to be engaged!

amigos.

Estar solo puede hacer que sea difícil

mantenerse mentalmente comprometido,

especialmente si no tiene cónyuge o pareja.

Las siguientes actividades están diseñadas

para fomentar el compromiso mental:

• Suscripciones gratuitas por correo electrónico

a boletines informativos de salud en línea

dedicados a personas mayores y personas

y educativas

Este programa se implementará

BEACON HOUSING AUTHORITY RE-EMPHASIZES PET POLICY

There continues to be an increase of incidents on the BHA Properties which involve unauthorized pets on BHA Property. Reports of several residents who have been attacked by dogs who have not been cleared to be on BHA property. BHA Management is working to have all animals who pose a threat to BHA residents immediately removed.

If you have been attacked or threatened by any animal on BHA property please report the incident to the Police and then contact the Management Office. There is an existing Pet Policy in place which all residents must adhere to.

The BHA Pet Policy requires all residents to have prior written approval of the Housing Authority before moving a pet into their unit. Residents must submit a request for approval on a Pet Ownership Form. The Pet Ownership Form needs to be fully completed before submitting to the Housing Authority. Once submitted the Housing Authority will review the request and make a determination.

Residents must also provide the Housing Authority a picture of the pet so it can be identified on BHA Property. Failure to comply with the BHA Pet Policy will result in removal of the pet as well as a lease violations.

For further information regarding the BHA Pet Policy please contact the Management Office at 845-831-1289

WOMEN’S GROUP OF BEACON

HOUSING AUTHORITY

The Women’s Group of BHA is working on a project with BHA Management to address the effects of social isolation and its impact on the BHA community.

How do I protect myself and my family from COVID-19? Wear a cloth face mask. A simple cloth face covering should be worn by everyone outside of their home when ample social distancing proves difficult. Be sure to wash your mask frequently.

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use alcohol based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a cleaning product that contains bleach.

Practice social distancing. Keep at least 6 feet of space between yourself and others whenever possible. Avoid social gatherings and unnecessary appointments. o Help keep our Parks open and safe for all

Avoid close contact with people who are sick and take special care to help the elderly and people with underlying health conditions avoid exposure.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Stay home when you are sick and even if you feel well, stay at home as much as possible.
