Philanthropic support is critical and leadership gifts are absolutely vital to the success of the project. We are asking that you please join us by making an investment in the lives of the adolescents and families that we serve. Go to WalkerCares.org for more information.

CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN IN AUGUST

Bowdoin Construction will be overseeing the building of the project. Bowdoin Construction is an established leader in the industry providing general contracting services throughout New England. It is anticipated that the construction will take approximately seven months, which will allow for a completion date in 2015.

The Beacon High School Community has picked up the torch and is leading the way to complete the Nancy C. Lincoln Center. Named in honor of Beacon’s distinguished former director of 37 years, the Center will stand as a powerful symbol of setting high goals and believing in “the possible.”

Beginning last June, Walker has been raising additional funds to complete this important project. Walker’s Board has demon-strated tremendous leadership and has fully supported this project. The Campaign progress made to date has shown how philanthropic resources invested at Beacon High School are leveraged into serious academic and social rewards for adolescents.

In addition to benefiting current Beacon students, the multi-purpose center will enable Walker to develop transitional support and summer programming for teenagers throughout eastern Massachusetts.

FALL 2014 Teaching. Caring. Building Hope.

The success that Beacon has with its students is both dramaticand extraordinary. Beacon’s approach encourages students tobuild resiliency, to further develop their strengths, learn new skills, and discover new talents that will shape the rest of their lives.

EXCITEMENT GROWS!Building Fund tops $1.2 millionand reaches half way goal!

As the parent of a former Beacon High School student I understand first hand the true impact that Beacon has had in our life. Our son’s success that he enjoys today is a direct result of the nurturing supportive and rigorous education he received at Beacon. My husband and I are truly grateful for

the work of the faculty and staff at Beacon and our present support for future generations is a small way of saying thank you to those who have given so much to our family.

Graduation:a New Beginning A STUDENT’S PERSPECTIVE

Graduation in June at Beacon High School is a powerful reminder of the perseverance and determination that students at Beacon display. In coming years the graduation will be held in the new multi-purpose space. This year was the last for the small tent pitched on the basketball court. Here’s what one student had to say about her transformation at Beacon:

"Beacon is the place that savedmy life. I had almost given uphope for my future in school, and Beacon turned that around for me… I came to Beacon asa 15-year-old, very angry, self abusive confused teenager.I left a stable, self-assured 17-year-old young woman whowas excited about her future.”

One VisionMeets Two NeedsENHANCING WALKER’S MISSION

AT BEACON, WHILE MEETING THE NEEDS

OF THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY

The new Nancy C. Lincoln Center will lay the foundation for an integrated Walker Watertown campus that will further expand and develop Walker services to adolescents for future decades. Beacon’s programs and services fill a gap in the landscape of adolescent services in Massachusetts.

Beacon is only one of a handful of schools across Massachusetts that provides highly specialized therapeutic services which address both the psychological and educational needs of adolescents.

This project will allow Beacon to grow and enhance its ability to provide comprehensive, therapeutic, educational, and community services for adolescents across our state while addressing the priorities outlined in Walker’s 3-year strategic plan. This project enhances Walker’s mission, meeting the needs of the people we serve and our surrounding community.

The multi-purpose building for performances and recreation will include art studios and classrooms, as well as space for school assemblies, training seminars, and community meetings. Bowdoin Construction will oversee all aspects of the construction project.

• A 40’ x 50’ gymnasium for daily physical exercise; • Space for performing arts, school assemblies, training and community meetings; • A fully equipped art studio and classroom, which will accommodate the teaching, creating, and displaying of visual arts, including pottery and sculpture; • Eighth grade classrooms and transition classes for youth coming into the school from psychiatric hospitals; • Office spaces, as well as a conference/ multi-purpose room.

WALKERCOMMUNITYSERVICE CENTERA hub for therapeutic community services, transi-tional case management, mentoring services for young adults, community counseling, and wellness and whole health services.

Beacon High School on Walker’s Watertown Campus is truly an extraordinary place of learning, healing and personal growth. It is my privilege to work with the dedicated team of professionals who share their talents and expertise, energy and enthusiasm every day with our students and their families. But it is these very students and families who inspire us. Our student body is comprised of bright, creative, talented and resilient young people who are able to experi-ence success at Beacon despite obstacles and challenges that are often overwhelming. Beacon High School is a very special place that provides thera-peutic education, resources and support while instilling reason for hope and optimism for students and families alike.

With the generous help of early supporters, we are now poised to begin construction to expand the school’s facilities with the goal of completing this critically important project in 2015. The many supporters of Walker’s Beacon High School are making a lasting contribution to the students who face their challenges with courage, and growing confidence. We are delighted to announce that with the incredible generosity of our growing community of donors we have raised over $1.2 Million, putting us half way to our goal!

The Nancy C. Lincoln Center will be about so much more than bricks and mortar. When we move into our new wing, we will have an expanded, creative learning environment that advances our mission and reflects our holistic approach to learning. I look forward to updating you as we move forward and ask that you join me in supporting Beacon High School.
