Miller’s FieldThere's no doubt that Miller's Field isthe best sports bar in Pacific Beach. With 38 TV screens throughout thebar, the day’s hottest game is neverhard to find, with everything from UFCto MLB. Just because Miller’s Field is asports bar, though, doesn't mean themenu is sacrificed. There’s a widerange of options, including gourmetpizzas, the homerun burger, ahi sushisalad, firecracker shrimp, babybackribs and chicken and waffles. Best Chinese China InnHow this place charges almost nothingfor its food and at the same time main-tains its flashy decor is beyond us. Thefunksters that populate this place, young and usually without a lot ofmoney, can expect to let go of less than$10 for generous helpings of Chinesestaples like egg foo young, chow mein, chop suey and variations on chickenand beef dishes (prices for the imperiallobster and Peking duck are somewhathigher). If you have even less to spend, you’re welcome to spend time at thefull bar — cocktails, like the rest of thefare, are anything but pricey.China Inn877 Hornblend St.(858) 483-6680

Catamaran SpaAt the Catamaran, the biggestdraw might be the beautiful stu-dios and suites. Or maybe thetropical garden. Or perhaps it isthe placid setting along MissionBay’s sandy shores. It could evenbe the relaxing day’spa. It’s hardto choose the best feature, espe-cially when you get them all for asurprisingly affordable rate.

JRDN You can actually credit the Tower’s cre-ative wine list to another establishmentin the same hotel. It’s JRDN (or “Jor-dan,” for the purists who prefer thephonetic pronunciation), a very high-end restaurant that swears by themagic it performs on beef and othermeats. Red wines go swimmingly withthat kind of thing — and that translatesto a comprehensive selection at the bar(the powers that be didn’t forget thewhites, either). Meanwhile, the baroffers a casual, yet sophisticated expe-rience. The atmosphere is warm andinviting and the crowd is hip yet mel-low — everybody gets to enjoy an oceanview while sipping signature cocktailsand nibbling on sushi.JRDN at Tower 23723 Felspar St.(866) TOWER23tower23hotel.com

Mamma MiaThe left hand definitely knows what the rightone’s doing at this place. The servers’ sugges-tions are spot-on — listen and heed them whenthey recommend Italian staples like lodigianasalad, lasagna and ravioli al casale. You simplycan’t go wrong with those choices. Neither willyou shirk at the sight and smell of the handmadepasta or the idea of exclusively in-house prepara-tion. There’s quaint all around, too — MamaMia’s is located in an old wood house, lendingnew life to the term “home cooking.”
