He was later the President of the Oxford Society of India.

He furthered his studies at the London School of Economics, where he studied Economics.

In the late 1980s, he served on the Board of the State Bank of India and the Economic Advisory Board of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Dr. Manmohan Singh.

He has also been a member of the Executive Committee of FICCI, the Federation of the Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and ASSOCHAM. He was also an independent director of United Breweries, United Spirits and Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers.

He played Cricket and Bridge for Oxford University. He was also a member of the silver medal-winning Indian team at the 1984 Bridge Olympiad at Barritz in Spain and Vice President of SRAM (Squash & Racquets Association of Malaysia).

An acclaimed vintage car collector, his Rolls Royces, a Bentley, an Aston Martin, an E-Type Jaguar and others are stabled at Ruparel House and at his Delhi and London residences.

Kucchi Samithi, he played an important role in the organisation’s growth and in the development of the Kucch region. An avid anti-dowry campaigner, he convinced several families within the community to shun the practice.

Built around the time when the city skyline

had relinquished its Victorian inclinations for

a modern Art Deco style, the interiors of this
