5th Edition of B+E International

June, JULY and aUGUST of 2012 in New york

Basket and English International is a program designed to teach

student-athletes, from around the world, English, using basket-

ball as it´s foundation. Please have a look inside to learn more

about this annual experience.

My name is Willie Ladson, ex-professional international basketball player, and I would like to

introduce you to my program. It´s called Basket and English. During the school year I teach kids in

Spain English using basketball drills and games. The kids get a chance to learn English at a com-

petitive pace. I´ve been running the program for four years now with great success.

Spanish students between the ages of 11 and 18, that pass all their classes in June, get an oppor-

tunity to travel to NYC with me and other qualified monitors, to attend different basketball camps.

This program is called Basket and English International. They will be getting the opportunity to

work on both attributes at a more saturated level.

I started my professional basketball career in Argentina back in 1994. I was on a team with

players that didn´t speak English, so I constantly heard Spanish spoken. I started testing out my

Spanish skills everyday on the courts with basic basketball lingo. Then I practiced everyday off the

courts as well with friends from the neighborhood. After about a year of that, I started carrying on

conversations.

That´s what the international part of my program is all about. It´s students learning English on

the courts all day, and then off the courts living in an English speaking environment. They will be

practicing English with their international teammates, American coaches at the camps, or with me

through conversation the rest of the day. When they want to go shopping or buy something to eat,

they have to ask for it in English. For example:

This summer I want to include basketball players from different countries in my program. Boys

and girls between the ages of 11-18. Since there was such a high demand in registration last summer

I decided to have two sessions in 2012. I will have a session in July for one month and a session in

August for 16 days. You will be living with players from all over the world and participating in all

of the activities and basketball camps that will be part of the program This way, the international

kids would get a more saturated dose of English. They would be constantly hearing it all day long.

Plus you get to go to three basketball camps. I will select from the following list of camps: Five Star

Basketball City Camp, The Knicks Camp, Hoop Group, Jim Calhoun Basketball Camp. The NBA

camps include guest appearances from some of your favorite NBA stars. The college camps are a

good way to get some early exposure, because there will be college and high school coaches in at-

tendance everyday evaluating the talent. So go out there and play hard and impress.

You would be staying at University dorms throughout your stay with cafeteria food service.

Campers from the various camps that we attended last summer had a great time getting to know my

Spanish players. Now you have an opportunity to live with them and the other kids from different

countries in NYC. We all will travel together attending camps, play pick up ball, trips touring N.Y.

beaches, Great Adventures Six Flags amusement park and tons of other activities. Those that are in-

terested send me an email with your parents emails and contact phone numbers so I can introduce

myself and the program to them. Please register online at www.basketandenglish.com My goal is to

bring 13(Boys) the end of June till the end of July and thirteen campers (Boys and Girls) at the end

of July till the middle of August. I will arrive in NY on June 28th with the first group and July 27th

with the second. I will select a day before camps start for orientation to talk to the parents of the lo-

cal American campers, and show you where you would be residing. All the international campers

that will meet me in NY will arrive a day or two later. I will meet you at the airport. Remember, I´m

only looking for 13 campers in July and 13 campers in August, so respond quickly. Looking for-

ward to seeing you soon.

Respectfully,

Willie Ladson

CEO of Basket and English/International

>Housing accommodation

-Pace University – Westchester (Pleasantville)

Pace offers fully furnished townhouses. Each unit is fully furnished with a living room with A/C and a "live" cable TV & Inter-

net jack, dining room area and kitchen located on the ground floor. The kitchen has an electric range, large refrigerator. You

will need to bring your own pots, pans, cooking utensils, TV with coax cable, microwave oven bed linens & towels.

The 2nd and third floors are identical in that each has 2 bedrooms, one in the front of the house & one in the back of the house.

There is a center hall bathroom on each floor. Each bedroom has A/C, "live" cable & Internet jack. There will be two of every

thing in each bedroom so you can push the twin beds together to make one large bed. However, you will need to place some-

thing in between the two mattresses.

Each resident will be issued a digital telephone, which has voice mail. You will be given an access code at check in to program

your voice mail. You will need a calling card with a 1-800-access number to dial out off campus. On campus calls as well as

calls to the immediate town are free. You will need to bring the TV, IBM compatible computer with an Ethernet card plus all of

the connecting cords.

There are three small coin operated laundry rooms located at the end of each townhouse row. All of the units are single sex (all

male or all female). We do not offer married or cohabitation housing. You may have guests just work it out with the rest of the

guys in the house. You may not sublet your room!

Parking is right behind the townhouse complex and you must register your car. New York City is 45 miles away and there is a

Metro North train station in town, (Village of Pleasantville). You can park in town by the train station after 5:00 PM weekdays

and on weekends. Other times, you risk ticket/tow. It costs $10.50 each way peak & $8.50 off peak each way. The train’s final

>Emersion of culture and language
