BudgetThe vehicle that we would purchase and donate to Dallas Animal Shelter would be a 4-5 year old school bus with low mileage. The coach can be purchased for about $20,000 including repainting and logo. We have figured that we will need additional $80,000 to transform the bus into a mobile spay and neuter clinic (SpayUsa) and cover the first year expenses. Dallas Animal Services will provide their veterinarians and assistants for this project. The total cost for this project would be $100,000 and should cover about 3,000 surgeries. For this mobile clinic, we will need surgical equipment, cleaning/sterilizing equipment, and lots of medication. Pain medicine that we would need includes medicine that pets will be given at time of surgery and take-home pain medicine such as low doses of Ibuprofen and Aspirin. Other medicine would include vaccines, antibiotics, and other medicine needed to perform the surgery. Most of our advertising would be done on our web site and social media. We will also advertise in the newspaper, and hand out fliers and brochures in low-income neighborhoods. The most expensive type of advertising we plan to do is radio advertising. We are estimating that it would cost about $3,000 per year to advertise on the radio. We have budgeted $1,700 for newspaper advertising, and another $1,300 to print flyers and brochures. Below is a complete list of all the costs to get this project started (ShopMedVet):

*Enough for 3,000 surgeries.

Brinkmann Pet will donate half of the money for this project and would like to ask the Dallas Chamber of Commerce to donate the other half ($50,000). With $100,000 in combined donations, we would be able to purchase a used school bus and fund free spay and neuter surgeries and free vaccinations for a whole year. After the first year, we plan to continue donating one percent of our profit to this cause for five consecutive years.Although mobile clinics target market would be low-income families, these services would also be available to non low-income families at discount rates. Services for non low-income families will cost between $20 and $60 depending on the procedure and the amount of work required to complete it. This is still much more affordable than vet clinics, where these services range from $45 to $200 (SPCA of Texas). All profits from these surgeries would be reinvested into equipment and medication necessary to continue providing free services to pets from low-income families.
