    ;he Bachelors egree Programme of Comuter Alications :BCA< ro$ides an understanding

    and s7ills related to the use of comuter and its alications. ;he BCA rogramme has been

    designed 5ith a secial focus on the current comuter alication and ossibility of mo$ing on

    to MCA.

    7.8 Cre)it S%stem

    ;he *ni$ersity follo5s the Credit System for its rogrammes. )ach credit is of 3/ hours of

    study comrising all learning acti$ities. ;hus% a four=credit course in$ol$es 12/ study hours.

    ;his hels the student to understand the academic effort one has to ut into successfully

    comlete a course. Completion of the Programme re2uires successful completion of "oth

    assignments an) the !erm#en) E/amination of each course in the programme.

    7.9 Stu)ent Support Ser(ices

    In order to ro$ide indi$idualised suort to its learners the *ni$ersity has created a number of

    Study Centres throughout the country for the BCA rogramme. ;hese are administrati$ely co=

    ordinated by the 8egional Centres.

    ;he Study Centres are the contact oints for the articiants on all ma#or asects of the

    rogramme. ;hese include counselling sessions% racticals% library facilities% disseminating

    information and ad$ice and facilities for audio=$isual training aids. ;he Study Centres are also

    e?uied 5ith some useful boo7s on the sub#ects of this rogramme. ;hese 5ill be accessible

    to the articiants during their $isits to the Study Centre. !he 'ni(ersit% ma% not al+a%s "e

    a"le to communicate to all the stu)ents in)i(i)uall%. All the important communications

    are sent to the Regional Directors. ;he Co=ordinators 5ould dislay a coy of such

    imortant circularsnotifications on the notice board of the Study Centre for the benefit of all

    the students. :ou are* therefore* a)(ise) to ;eep in touch +ith %our Co#or)inator on a

    more or less regular "asis so as to get a)(ance information a"out assignments* su"mission

    sche)ule 0assignments < e/amination forms1* list of stu)ents a)mitte) to a particular

    D;he candidates are re?uired to ot only such Study Centre as is acti$ated for the rogramme.

    As far as ossible% the *ni$ersity 5ill allot the Study Centre oted by the candidate. Eo5e$er%

    the *ni$ersity may change the Study Centre at its con$enience 5ithout concurrence of thestudent at any timeF.

    I06"* 6e5sletter is ublished t5ice in a year :Aril and "ctober< in )nglish and Eindi. ;his

    eriodical communication is deli$ered by ost to all the students of I06"* along 5ith course

    material. Information regarding )amination schedule% ne5 courses to be launched%

    admissions ... etc.% is also ro$ided through I06"* ne5sletter. It co$ers $arious acti$ities at

    I06"* Eead?uarters% 8egional Centres and Study Centres. It also carries imortant

    notifications from time to time.

    7.> Duration of the Programme0Minimum # 9 :ears* Ma/imum # ? :ears1

    ;o fulfil the re?uirements for ac?uiring the BCA% a student may clear all the courses in three

    years. If a student fails to clear all the re?uirements of courses in three years she may be

    ermitted to stretch it o$er a eriod of another 3 years. In case the student is unable to ass all

    the courses of BCA rogramme in years% the student may be ermitted to stretch it for another

    t5o years. In such cases% the student has to see7 readmission as er 8e=admission rules and

    ay the re?uisite fee. Please refer to Form No. @ for further information on 8e=admission.

    9ou may contact the 8egional Centre for further information about the same. But% you are

    ad$ised to ass all the courses successfully in 3 years.

    ;he facilities for counselling and ractical% 5ill% ho5e$er% not automatically be

    etended after first semester of study for BCA 1st% 2ndand 3rdyears. Practical sessions

    in subse?uent years is at the discretion of the *ni$ersity and sub#ect to ayment for the

    same.

    7. Fee Structure

    information related to fee.

    7.@ Stu)% Plan

    ;he eact date of commencement of the rogramme 5ill be notified searately by the

    resecti$e study centres. Irresecti$e of this date% the rogramme generally commences on a

    Sunday. "n that day% the articiants 5ill assemble in their resecti$e study centre. ;hecoordinator 5ill gi$e a thorough briefing on the content% conduct and schedule of the

    rogramme and clarifies the ?ueries from the articiants. ;he instructional counselling

    sessions 5ill commence during the follo5ing 5ee7.

    7. Aca)emic 'pgra)e Path

    )ither to go for MCA or other Masters egree rogramme in any other uni$ersity.

    Continue 5ith I06"* and roceed 5ith the MCA Programme. In case they so desire% students

    5ill be admitted to the 3rd semester of the MCA Programme. Eo5 e$er% all such students are

    re?uired to successfully comlete their BCA to re=register for ( thsemester of MCA. Students5ho ta7e admission to MCA 3rdSemester can comlete both BCA & MCA successfully in a

    minimum of ( years and a maimum of ' years.

    ;he methodology of instruction in this uni$ersity is different from that in the con$entional

    uni$ersities. ;he "en *ni$ersity system is more learner=oriented% and the student has to be an

    acti$e articiant in the teaching=learning rocess. Most of the instructions are imarted

    through distance rather than face=to=face communication.

    8.7 Print Material

    Printed materials are the rimary form of instructional materials. ;hese are sulied to the

    articiants in the form of se$eral boo7lets. A bloc7% 5hich comes in the form of a boo7let

    comrises se$eral units. ;he siHe of a unit is such that the material gi$en therein may beeected to be studied by a student in a session of about 2 to hours of study. ;herefore% you

    ha$e to concentrate mainly on the rint materials% 5hich 5e send to you. Eo5e$er% the fast

    ace of comuter industry necessitates that students must do some additional readings.

    Students are ad$ised to study reference boo7s 5ithout fail. Studying the rinted material alone

    may not be sufficient to 5rite assignments and reare for the term=end )aminations. It may

    not be sufficient to #ust study course material that is recei$ed by you from uni$ersity to ass all

    the courses. 9ou are hereby ad$ised to study the 8eference boo7s also.

    8.8 Au)io#4i)eo Material

    ;hese are $ideo=cassettes meant for clarification and enhancement of understanding. At

    resent there is no secific audio=$ideo for BCA rogramme.

    ;he audio=$ideo material is sulementary to rint material. Eence% 5e ad$ise you to ma7e

    use of it as that 5ill hel you to understand the sub#ect better. Eo5e$er% audio=$ideo material

    5ill normally not be sulied to the students indi$idually but 5ill be made a$ailable at the

    Study Centres. 9ou can 5atch these rogrammes during counselling sessions. ;he schedule

    for screening these films has been synchronised 5ith the rogress of rele$ant 5ritten material.

    8.9 Counselling Sessions

    In distance education% face=to=face contact bet5een the learners and their tutorscounsellors is

    relati$ely less and% therefore% is an imortant acti$ity. ;he urose of such a contact is to

    ans5er some of your ?uestions and clarify your doubts 5hich may not be ossible through any

    other means of communication. It also intends to ro$ide you an oortunity to meet yourfello5 students. ;here are academic counsellors at the Study Centres to ro$ide counselling

    and guidance to you in the courses that you ha$e chosen for study. 6ormally% these sessions

    5ill be held at the Study Centres during 5ee7=ends 0Satur)a%s an) Sun)a%s1.

    9ou should note that the counselling sessions 5ill be $ery different from the classroom

    teaching or lectures. Counsellors 5ill not be deli$ering lectures as in con$entional teaching.

    rogramme. In these sessions% you must try to resol$e your sub#ect=based difficulties and any

    other related roblems.

    comuter based information systems. ;he earlier courses 5ould ha$e made the learner familiar5ith basic comuter hard5are and soft5are concets as 5ell as a familiarity 5ith some of the

    rogramming languages. ;he rogramming eerience ac?uired is comlemented in this course5ith concrete systems eerience. ;his 5ould enable the learner to coe 5ith the number of

    comonents in a systems de$eloment aroach and enmesh them correctly to result in a successful

    carrying out ro#ect assignment also.

    1. ;o be eligible to aear at the ;erm=end )amination in any course% the students are re?uired
