BBFC Certifications Universal U films should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. At U grading only infrequent use of very mild language is permitted. Characters may be seen kissing or cuddling and there may be references to mild sexual behaviour but there is no emphasis on sexual behaviour or innuendo. U certification films could include mild violence or danger however, moments of emotional stress will be quickly resolved and the outcome will be reassuring. Parental Guidance PG films are suitable for general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children.Parents should consider whether the content may upset younger, or more sensitive, children before watching the film. Some films are given a PG certificate but have not been made with a young audience in mind. For this reason parental discretion is advised and information on the content is given in the certification certificate. 12/12A Films rated 12 are deemed suitable for persons over the age of 12. In cinemas the certification 12A is used. This states that persons under the age of 12 may watch these films but must be accompanied by a consenting adult.
