Pryce Jones born in Newtown 1834 . He opened a draperyshop and then the Royal Welsh Warehouse. It was Jones'

ideas which led to the promising beginnings of the first mailorder business in the world.

Before the river was dredged out as part of the FloodPrevention Scheme it occasionally used to freeze over inwinter. This picture was taken just upstream of the Long

Newtown's shops used to close on Thursday afternoons,which allowed the shop assistants time to play football. This
