BB Governor Visits Japan Mint - symbolizing the long-lasting friendship and
cooperation between Bangladesh and Japan
Dr. Atiur Rahman, the Governor has visited Japan Mint this morning at the last lag of his Japan tour. Japan mint has minted
500 million pieces 2 Taka coins in addition to 400 thousand Silver coins commomemorating 200 years of national museum
of Bangladesh. Japan Mint, an establishment of Japanese Government was founded in 1871, shortly after the Meiji
Restoration when Japan embarked on
modernization, minting coins and
commomemoratives for Japan and many
other countries. BB Governor officially
sealed the last container carrying the
consignment of 2 Taka coins to Bangladesh.
Governor then visited the various sections of
the mint witnessing the process of minting
coins. Finally the Governor handed over some
commoemorative coins and notes of
Bangladesh to the President of the Japan
Mint, Mr. Yoshiake Shinhara. The President
of Japan Mint, in return, gave 10
commoemorative items of coins and
decorations for exhibiting in Taka Jadughar
(Coin Museum) of Bangladesh Bank. It may
also be mentioned that Japan Mint handed
over the design of a comomorative coin set
counting 2 Taka Bangladesh coin along with
6 Japanese Yen coins. In this bief ceremony,
BB Governor mentioned that the coins minted
by the Japan Mint symbolizes longstanding Japan-Bangladesh friendly relationship. He also praised the hard works of Japan
Mint workers for producing these coins. The Governor emphasized that Japan remains as the largest bilateral development
partner contributing over 11 billion dollars as ODA for Bangladesh's socio-economic and human development. The
Governor remembered the contribution of of the father of the nation who founded this relationship. It was mentioned that the
portrayed of Banga Bandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman is being exhibited in this 2 Taka coin.
