Timeline Guidance for Reopening
All reopening plans are in draft form and are subject to change as per NYSED, NYSDOH, CDC Guidance and Governor’s Executive Orders.
Reopening Guiding Principles
● Governor Cuomo announced a data-driven plan for reopening schools in New York State. Schools in a region can reopen if that region is in Phase IV and its daily infection rate remains below 5%, using a 14-day average. Schools will close if the regional infection rate rises above 9%, using a 7-day average, after August 1.
● Governor made the determination that schools can reopen at district discretion on August 7
● Bay Shore Schools is prepared for four (4) possible scenarios: ● In-school● Hybrid Learning● Distance Learning● Remote Learning (August 7)
● Our goal is to safely provide as much in-person learning as possible.
Governor Cuomo’s Criteria for Reopening School
Reopening Bay Shore Schools
Traditional School If schools are permitted to open for in-person instruction, students will follow their academic schedules.
Hybrid LearningIn order to maximize in-person instruction and adhere to current guidance regarding maximum safe occupancy and social distancing requirements, a hybrid schedule containing elements of remote learning and in-person instruction has been developed.
Distance Learning (due to school closure)For an emergency school closing due to a resurgence of COVID-19, all students will participate in online learning.

Classroom Social DistancingMask and Face Coverings
● Required to be worn by all staff and students. District will provide face covering for individuals arriving to building without one
● Locations: school buses, in common areas of school buildings, and in class during instruction
● Not Required: during scheduled mask breaks or when eating/drinking
Before School● The Bay Shore School District will require daily temperature checks for all students.● Schools will periodically use a questionnaire for students (younger students may require the
assistance of their parent/legal guardian to answer). ● Parents will be instructed to monitor their child(ren) for symptoms of COVID-19 prior to sending them
to school or the bus. ● If a child presents with a temperature of over 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit, they SHOULD NOT be sent
to school.
Arrival● At the UPK-5 level, temperatures will be taken via a contactless infrared forehead thermometer prior
to a student exiting the vehicle (in the case of parent drop-off), or at the entrance to the building via a contactless temperature scanning system (in the case of arrival via a school bus).
● At the 6-12 level, temperatures will be taken at the kiosk when a student checks into the building using their Bay Shore School District issued identification card, via contactless temperature scanning.
Health Checks-Students
● Increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting, focusing on high-touch surfaces, such as desks, chairs, tables, public restrooms, library tables, handrails, faucets, door handles and push plates, remote controls, shared computers and keyboards, light switches, and elevator buttons
● Increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting with attention to these areas helps remove bacteria and viruses, including the novel coronavirus
Cleaning and Disinfection
● Suspension of○ Student Assemblies○ Field Trips○ Concerts/Performances○ Dances○ Extracurricular Activities ○ No Before School or After School Buses
● Parent-teacher conferences will be virtual
● Visitor access to buildings will be limited
Limiting Exposure

● Students should maintain social distancing at bus stops.● Once boarded, there will be one (1) student in each seat
except if children are from the same household.● Face coverings must be worn at all times when on school
buses and at the bus stop.● STUDENT DROP-OFF AND DISMISSAL: designated
building entrances/exits with staggered procedures (areas and processes may vary by building).
Transportation
In determining resumption of in-person instruction, the Bay Shore School District considered the following factors:● Ability to maintain appropriate social distancing● Use of face coverings ● Availability of safe transportation● COVID-19 regional infection rate below 5%

Hybrid Learning Structure
Why is Bay Shore using a hybrid model for learning?● To ensure the safety of all students and staff, based on the NYSED
and NYSDOH guidance● To limit the on-site density/volume in our school buildings and buses● To maintain social distance requirements ● To provide a blend of on-site, in-person instruction with off-site
distance learning● To establish the foundation for capacity building, full on-site learning
(traditional schooling), and/or full distance learning
Hybrid Model for Learning
Why is the District using an A/B/A/B schedule instead of an AA/BB schedule? This decision was made in the best educational interest of our students. The District leadership team was unanimous in its belief that our students will obtain the best educational outcomes by staggering student schedules, so as to minimize the number of days in between in-person teaching days. Teachers will be able to provide more responsive and timely teaching in the forms of enrichment, remediation, and support utilizing this schedule. Additionally, this schedule works more effectively at the secondary level. By using it on both the primary and secondary level and grouping students by household, it will be easier for older siblings to help with younger siblings.
Schedules
