International presence

Welcome to Baumit

The Baumit brand is recognised throughout Europe as a leader in building materials. It is part of the Wietersdorfer Group based in Klagenfurt, Austria, which has companies in 20 countries employing over 3000 people with an annual turnover in 2010 of €680m.

Baumit products and systems are now available in the UK and Ireland through Baumit UK Ltd and this company provides technical backup, sales support, product training and know how to our network of distribution partners and approved installers.

Baumit innovation

True to its philosophy, ”Ideas with a Future“, the Baumit brand continually develops and produces innovative productsand systems tailored to the demands of the customer. Baumit offers a range of specially formulated render, plaster and thermal insulating systems for Porotherm masonry. The systems are vapour permeable and complement the breathable nature of Porotherm masonry. The products are suitable for machine application to increase efficiency and maintain consistent material quality during application.

Baumit external wall insulation system - open KlimaFacade

The Baumit open KlimaFacade is a breathable insulation system. The perforations in the Baumit open®reflect boards enable water vapour to diffuse through the insulation system.

The system offers the enhanced thermal performance of silver-grey EPS without compromising the breathability of the Porotherm masonry.

The white coating on the board surface reflects low level sunlight. This reduces heat absorption and protects the board from the effects of significant temperature changes which can occur between day and night.

Baumit lightweight render system

Baumit Lightweight render system

The Baumit render systems for Porotherm comprise of a basecoat render and a decorative, coloured topcoat render. In certain circumstances an intermediary reinforcement coat may also be required.

Baumit basecoat renders

The core component of the system is the lightweight render basecoat. The render is specifically designed to suit Porotherm masonry in terms of strength compatibility and provide good weather resistance. The lightweight basecoat acts as a buffer zone between the masonry and topcoat render, absorbing stresses from the masonry and thereby reducing the risk of cracking to the topcoat.

These products are suitable for internal and external use onto the Porotherm block substrate.

Baumit reinforcement coat

The reinforcement layer of MC55W provides an extra level of protection to the render system when applied in locations exposed to severe or very severe weather conditions. It comprises of a 3 - 5 mm thick layer of contact mortar with an embedded layer of Baumit StarTex reinforcing mesh applied over the basecoat render.

Baumit topcoat renders

Decorative finishes

Baumit topcoat renders

The render system is completed with a decorative topcoat render to provide the essential water resistance to the outer surface of the render system. The Baumit topcoat renders are avalable in a range of aggregate sizes and colours from the Baumit Life colour system. Baumit ready mixed topcoat renders do not require painting.

A wide choice of Baumit topcoats is available including:n NanoporTopn SilikonTopn CreativTopn SEP

Application

A coat of DG27 Baumit Primer is applied to surface of the basecoat render with a brush or roller and left to dry for 24 hours. The topcoat render is applied with a stainless steel plastering trowel or suitable spraying equipment and smoothed out flat to the thickness of the aggregate. After a short while the surface can be textured in tight circular motions using a smooth plastic floating trowel. The topcoat render should be applied systematically to complete sections without breaks. A wet edge must be maintained to avoid inconsistencies in the finished texture.

Baumit Kalkin plaster system

Baumit Kalkin range of plastering products regulate the internal humidity levels, protecting naturally against mould growth.

The products are purely mineral-based and free of pollutants to ensure a healthy living environment. The systembasecoat plaster and finishes have a micro-pore structure which provides outstanding climate-regulating properties.Excess moisture from the air is absorbed into the micro-pores and held, to maintain a dry plaster surface. As theinternal conditions become drier the moisture is slowly released back into the room to rebalance the humidity levels.

Application

Site work

Porotherm masonry

The rules for best practice must be observed when erecting Porotherm masonry. Breakages and loose materials or open joints in the wall surface should be repaired and filled. Protect the masonry and building materials from water ingress during construction. The Porotherm masonry should be dry before rendering. Remove any signs of efflorescence with a dry brush. Do not use water. Remove any dust, dirt or other contaminants from the surface of the masonry.

General basecoat application

Baumit lightweight render systems and Klima plaster sytems are applied directly onto Porotherm masonry. Special surface pretreatments are not required. Where necessary, the walls may be mist sprayed with water to reduce high suction. Refer to our technical support team for guidance on dealing with changes in the rendering substrate such as concrete elements, steel lintels or insulants etc.

n Spray or hand apply the render or plaster in two passes, wet on wet to reduce the suction from the masonry.

n Rule off the render or plaster with a straight edge to produce a flat uniform basecoat free from undulations to the required thickness.

n On hardening, key the surface with a grid float or consolidate it with a rubbing up float.

n Leave to dry for 1 day per mm basecoat thickness before applying further coatings.

For the attention of Chris Hornby

Dear Chris,

Further to our meeting I would like to bring to your attention that Baumit UK have changed some of the product names shown in our catalogue to fall in line with changes made within the Baumit Group of standardisation of materials, therefore the documents enclosed are the changes Baumit UK will be adopting for products and their descriptions in 2015.

I note that the your letter from the NHBC dated the 17th November 2011 has some of the older product names written in as Baumit products, therefore I would like to confirm the change of name against these products as being:

• Baumit MPA X Therm and Baumit MineralPor as now being called Baumit MP69• Baumit ThermoPutz as now being called Baumit MP69 Speed

In addition Baumit UK no longer support Baumit Unico Bio and Baumit MPA 35, therefore these twoproducts should be removed from the NHBC reference against base coat renders shown in their letter of the 17th November 2011.

All products remain the same in application, it’s just product names that have changed. Other products and product descriptions remain the same as shown in the letter from the NHBC dated the 17th November 2011.

Should you have any further requirements please do not hesitate in contacting me.

Yours sincerely

C Dewhirst
