As you all know, our long awaited Villas & Vineyards Fundraising trip to the

Getty Villa, Santa Monica Pier and the beautiful wine country of Paso Robles was

last weekend. Twenty of us embarked on a luxurious brand new coach for a

very early morning ride to LA all the while dining on delicious quiche, fruits,

mimosas and engaging conversations. Our driver Rick of LD Tours, was such a

delight and as all of us would agree--very easy on the eyes!! The Getty museum

was enthralling, housing so many historical artifacts--truly a sight to see. Early

dining on the Santa Monica Pier--namely Marisol's for Margarita's and Mexican

food for some of us--was a delight, as well. The southern California weather was

just as it always is supposed to be--beautiful! The 3 hour ride to Paso Robles was

pleasant enough whether some watched movies or just watched the beautiful

scenery as we drove along the coastline in the quiet comfort of our coach. Soon we

would all be sound asleep in our rooms, looking forward to another fun-filled day

touring Hearst's Castle, enjoying the wines of several local vineyards and or

exploring the many activities of the Olive Festival in town. However, as you will

read in the accompanying letter, one of our members experienced a medical

emergency that would bring all of us a little closer and retrospective of how

fortunate we were to be in Paso Robles, CA when help was in need. We are all very thankful that our dear

friend fully recovered. Thank you all for your caring thoughts and actions on her behalf. And I'm so grateful to

be a part of this great club! Mo, take it from here........

President’s Message Continued from Page 3…

August 20, 2013

Dear People:

Recently, twenty members of my club, Active Republican Women of Las Vegas, spent a weekend in Paso Robles on the final

leg of our Villas & Vineyards bus tour. While there, one of our members experienced a serious medical emergency.

Fortunately, she is fine now, but for a couple of days we just did not know how this was all going to end.

Late one night, I called your 911 for help. In a matter of minutes, your Emergency Medical Service arrived and went to

work. Soon we were all on our way to the Twin Cities Community Hospital. Not having any transportation of our own,

another lady and myself ended up riding to the hospital in the back seats of a fire truck.

Upon arrival at the hospital, emergency staff immediately tended to the patient. Although it was very late and chilly in the

hospital, it wasn’t long when the hospital administrator on duty brought us two warmed blankets. She asked if we wanted

water, or if there was anything she could do for us. My friend and I were so comforted by her and all of the hospital staff.

This caring and concern for our well being continued through night. When it came time to return to the hotel, a policeman in

the area arrived to take us.

Later in the day, staff at the Black Oak Best Western where we were staying transported our member’s luggage and glasses

to the hospital. They also resettled our patient’s roommate into another room to make her more comfortable.

I cannot remember a time when I have experienced an entire community coming together to help strangers. I want to say

thank you to your EMS team, thank you to the Fire Department and to the Police Department. Thank you to everyone –

staff, doctors and nurses – at the Twin Cities Community Hospital. And finally, a big thank you to the staff of the Black Oak

Best Western for taking care of our group like we were their family.

Residents of Paso Robles and Templeton should rest well knowing their emergency first responders are top notch. And,

tourists wanting to have a wonderful vacation in wine country should put Paso Robles on their list. The hospitality could not

be better.

I know I speak for our entire club – thank you for jobs well done!

Thank You!!!

"I wanted to express my sincere appreciation to those of you who sent cards and the

beautiful floral/plant arrangement to us after my husband's brother's death. Rowen "Del"

Wood was only 49 and left behind a wife of 22 years, 3 children, 7 grandchildren and

a multitude of close friends and customers in his small town of Lebanon, Missouri. One

of those customers, the Holiday Inn Express, when learning his family from Las Vegas was

coming in for the funeral, gave all of us complimentary rooms for the three days we were

there. He made a such a difference with his customers and this was the least they felt could

be done in his honor. Losing a sibling is very hard. I lost my youngest sister when she was

just 47, 2 1/2 years ago. Del was the youngest in Gary's family, too. While his sudden

death left the whole family grief-stricken, the saddest part was watching his 5 young

grandsons ages 5 to 12 standing together at his casket crying and touching him as they said their

goodbyes. The obvious impact Gary's little brother made on those boys and 2 little toddler girls makes you

realize what is truly important in this mortal world. Rowen "Del" Wood made a difference in those

children's eyes and with so many others. He will truly be missed."

You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away peo-ple's initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves." ~ Abraham Lincoln **************************** "Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by let-ting the government take care of him had better take a closer look at the American Indian." ~ Henry Ford

I am a Republican because…

I believe the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s

dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.

I believe in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of

race, creed, sex, age or disability

I believe free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this na-

tion opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.

I believe government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to

keep more of the money they earn.

I believe the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those criti-

cal functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and

that the best government is that which governs least.

I believe the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government

closest to the people.

I believe Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while de-

veloping new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.

I believe Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride

while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.

Finally, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ide-

als into positive and successful principles of government.
