Term 2 is moving quickly and there have been various activities occurring

both in and out of our school. Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 completed Naplan in

Week 3, students have been involved in athletics carnival, cross country

events, Life Education Van, and various excursions.

Mr Kass and Ms Fallon have been successful in obtaining sporting grants,

these grants have enabled our students this term to be involved in tennis

lessons, gymnastics in Wagga Wagga and hockey coaching at no cost to

the parents. Without the effort of our staff, our student’s would not be able

to enjoy these activities, it is a credit to my whole staff that they endeavour

to continue to strive in exposing our students to a wide range of activities.

Questacon visited the school and the students were involved in challenges of building models in

order to fly in wind tunnels.

The students worked in teams and used problem solving skills in order to continually redesign their

models in order to be successful in the challenge. It was wonderful to see team building skills that

developed over the course of the day and the respect that was displayed to the presenters.

In order to prepare our senior students to gain knowledge and qualifications before they leave

school Mr Black ran a General White Card Induction Course which is required for our students to

complete work placement and is also a requirement for many future jobs that our students may be

involved in when they leave school. Mr Kass is also arranging presenters to come to the school

and advise our students on their career prospects, Hutcheon and Pearce, Defence Force and

Forestry NSW are a few companies that are coming to the school to address the students.

NAIDOC Celebrations will be taking place on Wednesday 3 July 2019 and our Semester One

Wellbeing Celebration will also take place in Week 10.

I would like to congratulate Ms Fallon who has successfully interviewed for the permanent

Assistant Principal position in our school. I would also like to congratulate Mr Ethan Kass who has

successfully interviewed for the permanent teacher position of PDHPE in our school.

Take care for the rest of the term, and if there are any concerns or questions please ring the office

on 6949 1208 and the staff will advise and help with any matter.

STAGE 5 DEBATING

Stage 5 Debating team ventured to Young on Thursday 30 May

2019, for their first round of the Premier’s Debating Challenge.

They showed noticeable improvement as a result of their practise

with Mrs Beattie and developed a fantastic and memorable team

line.

First speaker was Rebekah Gardner, second Carter Ironside, third Georgia Pate and fourth Rayleigh

Gould. They debated the topic “Home schooling should be banned” effectively and were complimented on

their formal presentation and fantastic manners. They represented their school well. Great effort team!

YEAR 11 CONSTRUCTION

At the start of this term the Year 11 construction class were given the task of

building a new trophy cabinet for the office. The new cabinet needed to fill in a

space where existing cabinet was but had to go all the way to the roof.

Once the students had measured the space and the height of some of the biggest

trophies, they went back to classroom and drew up some designs of what they

would like it to look like. The design had to incorporate a place to put plaques on

and to be positioned close to the front so people could see them easily.

To secure the lengths of timber needed to get to the roof I remembered that we

had pulled some long shelves out of a store room in the primary building that would

be good to recycle.

All timber was cut to length, then sanded to remove any marks from its previous life and then students

started to glue and screw frame together. They also plugged all screw holes so they were not so

noticeable.

The top level of the cabinet was where all the plaques were to be mounted so the students used an old

notice board cut to size and recovered in black fabric. This was then positioned close to the front and

screwed into place with some support structures behind it.

It was all given a final sand and lacquered to bring out the shine in the timber, students then carried it down

to the office and positioned it, screwing it securely to the wall.

Thank you to the students: Lane, Kurt, Mitchel, I-Zaya and Jasmine

PARLIAMENT OF NSW 2019 SECONDARY SCHOOLS STUDENT LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

Parliament of NSW and Government House jointly provide this civics and citizenship program for Year 12 captains and student leaders from all NSW secondary schools. It gives the student leaders the opportunity to develop their knowledge of our system of government and parliamentary proceedings, and the opportunity to meet the Governor, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC and gain a better understanding of her role. Bree Bowman and myself departed Wagga Airport on Wednesday morning, arriving in Sydney around

11.00 am. We explored the streets of Sydney, visiting local icons and using public transport. Coincidentally

VIVID Sydney, where light sculptures transform the city, was on and allowed Bree and myself to enjoy the

lights in Circular Quay, on the Harbour Bridge and Opera House and throughout the Botanic gardens.

On Thursday 30 May 2019, we arrived at NSW Parliament House, Macquarie Street. We had an

introduction to the NSW Parliament by Parliamentary Education and received an address by Members of

Parliament. Bree was able to have conversations with other electorate leaders as well as Dr Joe McGirr

MP, the Independent Member for Wagga Wagga. Students visited the public galleries of the Legislative

Assembly and Legislative Council Chambers. After lunch we walked to Government House and received a

Guided tour. Students and staff met with Her Excellency, the Honourable Margaret Beazley AO, Governor

of New South Wales and received her address. Students were able to view the gardens of Government

House and converse with Her Excellency.

Overall, it was an invaluable experience and provided insight into Australia’s civic life and how Bree could

make positive contributions as a local and global citizen.

Miss Taylor Jones, Year 12 Year Adviser

On Wednesday 29 May 2019 Miss Jones and I flew down and spent two days in Sydney, I found the

parliament house visit was an eye-opening experience and it was a privilege to be there. I had the best two

days in Sydney, it was a fun and exciting trip.

Thank you to Miss Jones for taking me and the school for giving me the opportunity to go.
