aboutsafeneighborhoods.

TheSafeHumanemodelpilotedinChicagoisanunprecedentedcommunity-wide

collaborationamongnon-traditionalpartnersthatrecognizethebenefitsofthehuman

-animalbond,aswellastheconnectionsbetweenanimalabuseandinterpersonal

violence.Human-welfareandanimal-welfareadvocatesworktogethertobreakthe

cycleofviolenceandneglectbyusingthepowerofcompassionforanimalsandtheir

collectiveknowledgeandcommunitynetworkstodemonstratethatcommunitiescan

onlybesafewhentheyarealsohumane.Programsareconductedandrefinedin

partnershipwithschools,faith-basedorganizations,lawenforcement,thejuvenile

justicesystem,courts,animalcontrolorganizations,animalrescues,andshelters

andothercommunity-basedgroups.Theyprovidedisadvantagedcommunities

thosemostaffectedbyviolenceandlackofeconomicopportunity withopportunities

toformpositive,beneficialrelationshipswithcompanionanimalsthatleadtosafer

neighborhoods.
