Chapter 1
Importance of Bath Salts
Are we on the same wavelength when we speak of what bath salts are capable of doing for
Consider the amounts of currency that individuals pay just to be able to visit and take a dip i
hot spring! Clearly, I see bath salts raising your spirits and stimulating your body physical
that you feel good doing whatever it is you are into at that particular period. They give y
tranquilizing experience that you wish to have for the rest of your life. As traditionally bel
and practically experienced, bath salts do really have special health and relaxing properties.
And what is the physical look of bath salts?
Well, not really powdery; rather, they have a crystal look and feel. After all, they are m
derived from actual minerals. Derived – how? That is simple: conventionally, mineral
simply ground to make bath salts.
Oh! To help you out of any confusion considering the many minerals that there are in this h
world we live in, we need to pull out bath salt related minerals and distinguish them frommasses. The most common minerals that you can get bath salts from include:
Sodium – yes, we find it somewhere in our kitchen ingredients
Bicarbonate – oh yes; that too lands in our kitchen in one form or other
Calcium – that one that the orthopedic doctor keeps recommending
Magnesium – also shows up in our daily foods
Sulfate – well, does not stroll everywhere but is no stranger either
So, there! You now have an idea the kind of stuff we are referring to when we talk of bath
To bring you even nearer home, let us give you the various names that actual bath salts pas
They include:
i) Sodium chloride
Oops! You thought that was strictly table salt? Oh no – it is not just meant for your palate. I
more to offer in relaxation.
ii) Sodium bicarbonate
Oh no! I say, oh yes. This is not just meant to serve as a baking agent; it is more useful than
contributing to your body fitness.
iii) Magnesium sulfate
In day to day language, you will see it as Epsom salts – those ones they mention when you n
cure for muscle aches and discomforts like those.
iv) Sodium hexametaphosphate

That one you may see on those products that relax the texture of your garments; so the name c
be that strange to you, really, especially when we tell you that its common name is Calgon.
v) Sodium citrate – the one they use to emulsify oils and sometimes to regulate
levels in drinks
vi) Borax
vii) Sodium sesquicarbonate
So, generally speaking, why are bath salts so popular?
A number of reasons fit well – like:
They make you enjoy your bath in a special way
They enhance your cleaning – yes, really
They make you enjoy the feel-good sense that encompasses you within a natura
spring
They serve as good carriers of fragrances and a myriad other cosmetic agents.
Where do I get miners to provide these mineral like substances that are bath salts?
No; you do not need miners, because when you are talking relaxation and that feel-good sens
you do not deal with crude stuff; which is what miners extract. All you do is confidently ente
beauty outlet; a supermarket; a chemist; or such other commercial place, and you will find w
packaged bath salts.
Alternatively, and that is what we are preparing you for today, you simply make your own
salts. You get to use only the ingredients you like, you get the scents you love – call it freeand relaxation in one package.
By the way, when did bath salts begin to fascinate people?
Great question because you and I are not the first to have the idea there is something special
bath salts.
Now, say Hippocrates – ok. Say medicine – alright. This man of Greek descent, who i
acclaimed Father of conventional Medicine as we know it today, knew there was somethi
bath salts than their glossy look or natural nice smell. So he encouraged his colleagues
profession to take advantage of the salts of the seas to cure their patients of various ailments
When exactly is this that they were using bath salts?
Just realize that Hippocrates lived between the years of 460BC and 370BC. That tell
clearly that the importance of bath salts was already known prior to Hippocrates’ practi
medicine. In fact, there is documentation.
About 2700 BCE, someone in China published some material on the usefulness of such salt
even gave steps that you could use to extract the salts. So the Greeks took up the challenge
Hippocrates and the salts continued to gain popularity. And before we can say rightly that th

is history, you see some publication by an English author who also happened to be a physic
The Uses of Sea Water.
So, clearly, bath salts were there in ancient days; they have been around in all the centuries
by; and are still here for us to enjoy. Why not then learn how to have them conveniently and
them!
In the meantime, has someone whispered these very fascinating facts about bath salts?
a That if you put a lot of bath salts in your bath water the density of the water
significantly up and you actually experience some buoyancy? Wow! Makes you feel bu
like a bouncing ball, only you are in water and getting soothed.
b That it is likely bath salts could cure arthritis?
Sounds like these are salts whose effect you do not want to miss, whether you can affor
visits or not.

The Long List of Bath Salt Benefits
Did you for a moment imagine we were through with all the good that bath salts provide? S
no – chapter one was just a mention. It is only after you get to appreciate clearly the potent
bath salts and how much they can positively impact your life that you will hunger for the ski
enable you make some yourself.
So let us consider some of the benefits that will inevitably bring a smile to your face:

And supposing you were to learn that bath salts effectively raise your very mood
make you feel great about life? Well, is that not another wonderful thing! And yes,
do.
Good thing is: there is plenty more you will learn about bath salts that will make you wi
always have some in the house.
Let us learn the details of how bath salts improve your life:
a) Bath salts exfoliate whatever dead cells there are within your expansive skin, and ki
rejuvenate the skin. Sounds refreshing! What does that do to your skin then? It actually
something enviable – what you always long for. And that is your skin looks smooth;
supple; and generally much younger!

break it down in relation to bath salts:
1. If you have psoriasis, bath salts help you out
2. In case you have eczema, bath salts do you good

7. And do not miss out on this: You do not have to pop a tablet for your m
tension. Bath salts do relax your muscles until you forget they ever ache
Why do you think bath salts are that great for your skin? Ah – let us say we put guesswork
and talk facts. For one, the working process of bath salts is very effective. Aha – and how is
Well, once you immerse yourself in the water in which you have added bath salts, the min
that are obviously active, penetrate the pores of your skin; and that is at molecular level – se
business here. And what is the impact? The impact is effectively cleansing your skin oimpurities, and essentially purifying it.
Wow! You can almost feel your skin breathing fresh. And of course, the look of your skin te
all. It looks well toned; with a nice texture; and it generally radiates.
How do individual minerals work?
Well, just curious: Do you know how the minerals in the bath salts work singularly? Here:
Magnesium
This is the mineral that fights your fatigue and stress. And you can imagine how much you
that after a long day of highs and lows; both physical and mental.
Bromide
We had not mentioned this one before by name, but yes – it is one of those very active min
that make bath salts worth having. When you hear that bath salts are soothing and relaxing to
muscles, bromide is it.
Sodium
Sodium does some balancing of your lymphatic fluids. Obviously you can visualize someth
the bracket of osmosis and diffusion. Whatever that it is that sodium enables at when yo
taking your bath, it results to optimal balancing of those fluids.
Potassium
This mineral is responsible for keeping the moisture levels within your skin well leveled
Calcium
This one does not allow your body to retain any more water than is necessary – keeps that
well under check.
Going by that long list of benefits, surely, who would question the importance of having bath
in your house or wherever it is that you prefer to go for relaxation? Clearly, they are grea
your mental and also physical health.

Next add your chosen essential oil slowly by slowly as you mix them with th
mixture. Ensure that your essential oil reaches every part of the salt mixture.
Finally, add your chosen color and mix it well too so that your bath salts are unifo

Believe it or not – you are done. Storage is the other important step to consider as you c
afford to lose any fragrance from your bath salts. Whatever container you decide to store
salts in, ensure you seal it securely tight.
Wow! Food is ready – how do I eat it? Well, use a fork and spoon! Just an analogy anyw

Chapter 4
What exactly are Bath Bombs?
Does the association with bomb set you all alert? If so, it is just as well because you are abo
learn that the term sometimes comes with things you do not want to live without: stress kic
and relaxation. Bath bombs do not bomb you but rather bombard you with natural element
are cleansing, nice smelling and therapeutic.
But to have a clear image, let us say, bath bombs are soft balls – well solid, though – tha
immersed in bath water for the purpose of adding into the water nice scents; cleansing ag
healing and soothing oils; and other such elements, including color. Of course, you ne
appreciate that they also produce bubbles as they get soaked by the water.
So are you to use bath bombs because you are dirty or ill?
No – that is not the case. In fact, you may even want to give someone bath bombs for a gift –
would be welcome. But when you want them for yourself, it is usually because they have som
ingredients, like the sea salt, which penetrate into your body while you are enjoying your nicwarm bath; removing impurities that are usually stuck within the pores of your skin.
Then if your body is feeling tense and heavy, some of the ingredients like mint energize
instantly, and the feeling of lethargy disappears. If you are really feeling tired and tense in
way, you may wish to add some lavender essence as you are making your bath bombs.
And the reason we are attributing the aspect of therapy to bath bombs, for one, is that when y
are very tired and tense you tend to feel ill. In fact, often you are not very productive when y
are in that state. In addition, there is another angle to direct healing like in the case where yo
have a rough skin that makes you uncomfortable. In case you decide to include sweet almond
in your bath bombs in the process of making them, the oil has the effect of moisturizing your s
and that, without any side effects as it sometimes happens with synthetic applications. You c
even cap up that by adding some avocado oil or even wheat germ oil into your bath bombs.
So you relax and you heal, all in a natural way. Yet that is not all. If you have been pleading
your kids to go take a bath, you can easily solve that problem by giving them bath bom
dissolve in their bath water. And where does the help lie, you may wonder? Here: not only
they experience the pampering that you also enjoy, but they will be fascinated by the bubbli
the water, and then bathing becomes some form of entertainment for them. And do not undethe attraction of color to kids.
What is the real make-up of bath bombs?
Bath bombs are more or less like bath salts in composition, only that the bombs – well,
bombs – are shapely and not powdery. Otherwise, expect to use:
Sodium bicarbonate
This is what you know as baking soda in the food arena
-
8/20/2019 Bath Salts the Ultimate Beginner
20/28
Citric acid
This is the ingredient that seeks out the sodium bicarbonate to perform some chemical ac
that results in bubbles. And just for information, those bubbles that are real fun to have in
bath are nothing much, really – just some carbon dioxide!
Corn starch
This is nothing more than a filler – just to get the two active ingredients of citric acid and so
bicarbonate holding together as you make the bath bombs.
Magnesium sulfate
is one may sound pretty scientific but it only means Epson salts. But these salts contr
ssively to relieving muscle aches and tension.
course, just like in the case of bath salts, you have the leeway to add dried herbs; dried fl
als; and even coloring. And just to make the bath bombs even more appealing to the eye, you
d some glitter.
How long does it take these ball-like things to dissolve?
ell, by the time you complete exclaiming what a wonderful feel and a few more superlatives,
h bomb will have dissolved. We are talking of around two minutes since getting into contact
water.
How do you know your bath bombs are doing what they are meant to do?
course you know the issue of bubbles – those ones you will see with your naked eyes. Bu
re is the issue of sound: you will hear crackling and fizzing as each of your bath b
integrates. That is also the time when the unique properties of the bomb begin to be clear grance and the color mainly.
At what point in the bathing process do I add in the bath bomb?
Good question this one is. You do not want a situation where you fail to experience the full e
of your bath bombs. So, here is how it goes:
Fill in your bath tub with water that is warm – obviously not to the brim otherwise i
spill over when you jump in. You also understand how nice warm water feels on the bod
using it is just complementing the impact of the bath bomb.
Pick your bath bomb from wherever dry place you have secured it. Grip it carefully a
dip into your bath tub and make yourself comfortable.
At this point, you are ready to begin your blissful experience; so hold your bath bomb
above your bathing water.
Then one – two – three – drop!
The bubbling and fizzing begins. And the uplifting aura of beautiful scents engulfs
automatically putting you in a relaxing mode.

Bath Bomb Maker: Beware!
Is there any way something can go haywire in the whole process? Well, not really. At least n
a way that can cause you significant harm. The reason for this alert is that you want everythi
go as you intend so that you end up enjoying bath bombs at a relatively low cost.
Times to keep watch is when you go out to buy fragrance and those other products that are m
to produce nice scents and even color. You want scent releasing products that are body frie
no less. So, beware some store does not sell you fragrant oils and other products that are m
for scented candles. You know some unscrupulous charlatans can do precisely that wi batting an eyelid.
In fact, the best outlets to buy your bath bomb stuff from are those that deal in foods. If you a
from those ones, you can check out some craft stores too. You do not want to risk buyin
wrong brand of products and then in place of nice scents you end up getting odors; and in pla
skin softening ingredients you end up getting irritants – no. You just have to get the
ingredients and make yourself therapeutic bath bombs right in your house.
Quick Question:
Suppose there is no citric acid available in the stores?
ell, that is not a big deal. You can make bath bombs that are just as good using Cream of Tartar
s elusive ingredient that is citric acid need not bother you much. By the way, what is this c
tar all about or where does it come from? Ah – you will love this. You know how nice
ells? Good! This product – Cream of Tartar – is a by-product of the wine making process. And
he place I hear, cheers! Why seek anything else?

Let Us Make Bath Bombs In Half An Hour – Or Less!
Ingredients
Mineral salts = 4 ounces
You can also choose to use Dead Sea Salts instead.
Baking Soda = 8 ounces
Citric acid = 4 ounces
Corn starch = 4 ounces
Essential oil = 2 teaspoons
Normal fragrance oil will do too
Vegetable oil = 2½ teaspoonsWater = 0.75 tablespoons

Have your molds ready
The reason you want these bath bombs is that you want some fun too. So if you have a chan

You can look for substitutes around the house – anything that help you bring out some sh

You can even decide to combine different colors. For instance, if you use 1 drop of red col

therefore need not worry about your bath bomb leaving colored rings in your bath tub.[
How to go about making the bath bomb:
i) Get a bowl and put all your dry ingredients in it.
Whereas it is not a strict rule, using a glass bowl is the best option as glass does not trigge

iii) Now pour the liquid into the dry mix in the bowl gradually as you con
mixing. Whisk everything into a smooth mix. In case you observe some foaming, halt a
the liquid and try and even out the ingredients by consciously getting the foaming part to
with the other content that is not reacting. As from there, the best thing is to continue ad
your liquid into the mixture each teaspoonful in its own time.
iv) The look of your stuff after you have completed mixing your ingredients properly s

v) Now set your molds ready on a flat surface and put in your moist lumps. Take any
filled up molds and attach them together such that the bath bomb contents are closed insi
vi) After the minutes you wish – no specific time, really – remove your shaped lumps an
them on some open space to dry. In fact, it is fine to remove your bath bomb lumps soon
you have fixed your molds properly in place. The reason is that all you are interested
this juncture is to make lumps of a particular size in your preferred design.
vii) Once you have your bath bomb mix dry, it is important that you store them
airtight place, preferably some bag. The reason for this is that you want them safe
moisture of any sort including humidity for obvious reasons – in contact with moisture

Note:
Whenever you do not include a preservative in your ingredients for your bath bombs, ensur
you use those bath bombs within a period of six months.
Just try and do a recap now:
