SECTOR NEWS

VOLUNTEER LEADERS FOR LIONS VILLAGE LICOLA CHILDREN CAMP 289 - JAN 2018 Lions Village Licola Camp 289 (8th to 12th January 2018) has been filled to full capacity by 140

deserving children aged 8 to 11 years who have been selected by staff at family support agencies and

principals of schools located in the Geelong region. The Lions Club of Geelong Corio Bay is seeking 20

volunteer Cottage Carers who are WWCC qualified to mentor and care for the children in furnished

cabins. Cottage Carers will accompany children to meals in the dining room and supervise them while

participating in challenging outdoor activities overseen by qualified instructors.

Many of the children are sourced from foster care programs, some are selected from local families

experiencing hardship and others are from refugee families including recent arrivals from Iraq and

Syria. All of the children are excited about the prospect of attending this unique wilderness experience

which has been funded by local Lions Clubs and philanthropic grant providers.

All transport, meals and accommodation are provided free to the children and volunteers and there

are no personal expenses involved. You must qualify at a 4 hour Licola specific training session at The

Hub, Diversitat, 25 Arunga Ave, North Geelong (behind Bunnings) during December, 2017. This camp

represents an opportunity for you to gain leadership skills, valuable experience in caring for children

and camp management may certify your attendance upon request if it forms part of a tertiary

qualification course. Four 57 seat CDC coaches depart from two locations in Geelong/Corio 7 a.m.

Monday 8th January and return 6 p.m. Friday 12th January 2018.

Details of Lions Village Licola are available on www.licola.org.au and advertisements for Camp

289/20189 Child Carers are listed on the Volunteering Geelong website.

Presently, Lions Village Licola is in urgent needs of volunteers (leaders/cottage carers) for Camp 289

and is seeking your assistance in providing qualified volunteer(s) from your agency. The LV Licola

requirement is 1 Volunteer for every 6 children, which is also the legal requirement/ratio of adults to

children for coach transport. If your agency wishes to participate in Lions Village Licola Camp 289/2018

and is able to provide qualified volunteer(s) child career, please contact directly Brian Edwards from

Lions Club of Geelong Corio Bay.
