Civil engineers used all modern progressive building materials. Buildings were very cheap. Roofs were flat, exterior masonry was rejointed, partition walls were made of hollow bricks or from lathed joists.

Houses reminded cubes-boxes.Třebíč‘s public called them just “boxes“.

There were not any fences beetween the houses. In the garden people could not cultivate vegetables and fruit trees. They could cultivate only flowers, trees and bushes. During the Second World War management of the factory allowed to plant some vegetables.

The Baťa company gave the colony a new name “New Borovina“. There were Baťa´s shopping centre, a community house, a dance floor in the country, a school, a post office, a nine-storey dormitory, a fire station, a railway station Řípov (today Borovina), etc.

At the beginning of the sixties the houses belonged to people´s committee (of Třebíč) and in the second half of the sixties private people bought them. People gradually modified the houses.

Today the city quarter is getting changed. Houses don´t look identically any more. Owners repair their houses according to their taste.
