STORY TIME

Storytime began at Bass Valley Primary School on Wednes-

day from 2.30—3.15pm. Story time will run weekly and is

for pre schoolers, toddlers and babies. You are never too

young (or too old) to listen to great stories, join in finger

plays, rhyme and songs. It’s free, it’s fun and it builds im-

portant literacy skills. So join Dorene in the school library.

STUDENT BANKING

Students can bring their bank deposits to school on a Thurs-

day for the Bendigo Bank or the Commonwealth Bank for us

to process. If you would like application forms, please ask

at the office.

BOOK CLUB

Book Club pamphlets went home last week. If you would

like to place an order you need to send it back to school by

16th February. Book club goes out about two times each

term.

COLES SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS

We are collecting these tokens now so tell your family and

friends to collect them too and drop them into the collection

box in the school foyer. The more tokens

we collect the more sports equipment we

will be able to get for the school.

SWIMMING TIMETABLE FOR TERM 1

HOUSE SWIMMING SPORTS

It has been decided to postpone the House Swimming Sports to Term Four to allow our new preps time to

develop water confidence and safety skills which will better allow them to safely enjoy the event. The extra time will also allow our grade 3 students time to adjust to the challenges of the senior carnival and be better prepared for this event.

The District Swimming team will be selected by Mr

McCormick from trials during P.E lessons and lunchtime

sessions.

VIC ROADS School Council has been pursuing the change of speed signs outside the school during school hours to 40 kph as per the majority of schools in Victoria. It iswell researched that reducing the speed helps to save lives as any impact is greatly reduced. We are very disappointed that the initial application has been rejected but we will continue to pursue this most important safety matter. Bass Valley kids are as important as kids at every other school! Watch out for a petition which will be circulated to fami-lies and community members very soon. In the meantime we ask parents to take particular care when dropping off and picking up students. LEARNING CONFERENCE (STUDENT/PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS) This year students will attend the interviews with parents to empower students to take greater responsibility and ownership of their learning. The interviews will be held on Tuesday 20th March in the afternoon/evening. More in-formation to follow. DON’T BE ALARMED Next week you may hear sirens at school. Don’t be alarmed, we have planned a fire drill ! Teachers will speak to students about hearing an alarm and what to

do. It is most important that we rehearse these procedures in case of fire. Parents who are in the school will also be required to participate in the drill ( this is why it is so im-portant to sign in and out of the school).

ATTENDANCE

There is a strong link between absences and poor aca-demic results – please make sure your child is at school unless they are sick. Attendance is being monitored care-fully. Arriving on time is also important – it is very disrup-tive to not only your child but the rest of the class and teacher if arriving late.

Piano lessons your way with Priscilla Alderton BMus Hons (Perf), LTCL, FTCL, Grad Dip Counselling Creative lessons in piano, harpsichord, theory, improvisation, active listening and analysis, exam and performance preparation for students from beginners to professionals, young and old. Priscilla has just completed building a beautiful new music studio in the hills overlooking Kilcunda and hopes to fill it with new students. With a wealth and depth of experience on the concert platform, teaching in schools, teaching students at the VCA, universities, working with choirs and teaching in her private studios, Priscilla’s focus is on working with her student’s own learning style to cultivate a love of music and its practice. Priscilla is also an active AMEB examiner and loves the happy process of preparation and mutual sense of accom-plishment that results from excellence in presentation. From students: ‘Priscilla is an incredible piano teacher, one that has brought kindness and respect to every lesson. She has helped me find my passion for piano again, and for music in general.’ .....Dingyi, Yr 9, recently awarded A+ for Grade 7 piano. ‘Priscilla’s infectious passion, knowledge and love of music unlocked new worlds of musicianship inside of my mind, soul and fingers. She is truly an inspiring teacher!’ ....Marco, A Mus, M Mus. ‘There is certainly no one size fits all approach when it comes to learning music and piano from Priscilla. If some-thing isn’t resonating or sinking in, she tries an alternate approach until I understand. Every lesson is reward-ing.’ ......Alice, adult beginner
