How Are Stained Glass Windows Made?

• There are two methods: Leaded Stained Glass means there is a strip of soft leaded laid between each piece of colored or textured glass. The strips are soldered together, holding the glass in place

Here is an example of a leaded stained glass piece about 3/4 of the way constructed with lead. Each piece of lead

will get a drip of hot solder to “glue” it in place.

• After the glass is cut and smoothed, a strip of special copper tape is wrapped around the edge of each piece of glass and firmly pressed down. This is then the surface that will be soldered, so that each piece of glass is trapped and glued to its neighbor through soldering!
