John Svedese has been an artist his whole life. From a young age, he always had a pencil in his hand. Starting with simple drawings of Disney characters, Looney Tunes cartoons and newspaper comic strips, but he really honed his skills in the early 90’s when he first read The Death of Superman. Dan Jurgen’s art in The Death of Superman inspired John to take drawing comics seriously. Every page of The Death of Superman were full page splashes of drama and emotion. The images affected the ten year old so much that he started emulating Jurgens. The art of Dan Jurgens taught John what anatomy in comics was supposed to look like. But Todd McFarlane taught him with Spawn where to put the lights and shadows. Through his career, John picked up different technique’s from his idols. If you look closely at his art you can see Dan Jurgens, Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee and Frank Miller, just to name a few.
