Th« Sag* Dripping Poetry Ou« Good Re- sult of the World's Series Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due -The Ficti- tious Values Ruling in Base Ball Minor NEW VOBK, Oct. 21. Editor SPORTING LIPS: I Do yon think It ts a hippodromo the Detroit Club puts up? Never ID the wide, wide world Will Von der Ahe's champions carry off the Dauvray cup? Never In the wide, wide world. Of tbe thousands paid for Kelly you have doubt loss heard a hint, And how the Pittaburg president would for Anson give a mint; Might not Bariiie give a million for a photograph of I Never in the wide, wido world. I always run into poetry more or less ia the I autumn and spring. When the leaves bud, an i I again when they shrivel and let go, my fancy I turns to metre and rhyme and I am inclined to | fire off wada of verse. Last Sunday I read long account in ft Cincinnati paper about Carl I Kankin. the minstrel'? going home to Columbus to die, and ttie story wound up with a beauti- ful anu-mortem obituary of "poor Cnrl." On Tuesday night I went to Doekstader'a Min-Urels I to get cheered up a little, because I knew Run-1 kin, aad the news of his hourly exneeted demise [ had made me sad. You may jud^e of iny sur priao when tbe man on tbe boned end showed up to be Carl himself, as jolly and comical as ever, I in spite of the funeral sermon that bad bten preached on the verge of his grave. Then I Lew Docks tad cr sang his topical song, "Never I in thft Wide, Wide. World,'* and as I sat with I that Napoleon of base ball, John B. Sa^e, and I heard the song the abuva verse occurred to me. [ I mentally noted it down, and there it i*, an I inspired gem frota the deep caverns of my rich, I poetic onuJ. The St. Louis newspaper man who waa so sure tho Brown* hud purposely dropped that second game of the world's series mu^t be con- vinced by thU time that there is no hippodrom- ing between the Browns and Detroit^. Never in the wide, wido world.

I always run into poetry more or less ia the I autumn and spring. When the leaves bud, an i I again when they shrivel and let go, my fancy I turns to metre and rhyme and I am inclined to | fire off wada of verse. Last Sunday I read long account in ft Cincinnati paper about Carl I Kankin. the minstrel'? going home to Columbus to die, and ttie story wound up with a beauti ful anu-mortem obituary of "poor Cnrl." On Tuesday night I went to Doekstader'a Min-Urels I to get cheered up a little, because I knew Run-1 kin, aad the news of his hourly exneeted demise [ had made me sad.
