QuietWave® acoustic plasterboard barrier is the most economic 6-star acoustic wall system available. The thinnest and lightest way to achieve the highest acoustic performance, QuietWave® is a class above minimum BCA requirements.

Acoustica’s QuietWave® noise barrier isolates noise and dampens sound vibration increasing the sound transmission loss.

QuietWave® viscoelastic noise barrier parallels the theoretical performance of the ideal limp mass barrier.

The development of QuietWave® noise barrier has been achieved with a matching acoustic performance of R1,cw 27 for the 2.5kg/m2 (Wilkinson & Murray test results following page).

QuietWave® has been certified by the CSIRO Division of Materials Science and Engineering as Group 1 Fire Rated

Our tests show that when QuietWave® is sandwiched between two layers of 13mm Fyrchek plasterboard, the Sound Transmission Loss (STL) achieves is equivalent to 5 layers of the same plasterboard.

QuietWave® technology is incorporated into Acoustica’s range of acoustic products for walls, partitions, floors, ceilings and pipe lagging.

Applications• Multi-residential walls and ceilings• Retrofits• High Confidentiality partition wall systems (for

Lawyers, Doctors, Dentists, etc)• Commercial walls and ceilings• Improving existing partition wall & ceiling performance• Sole occupancy unit dividing walls• Boardroom and office division walls

Acoustic Performance Index*When Acoustica’s concept of Acoustic Performance Index is applied to the QuietWave® wall system, the score is extremely high. Acoustic Performance Index takes into account the cost of the wall compared to its acoustic performance and to the thickness of the wall and the floor space cost.

The QuietWave® wall system is only 148mm wide and has an acoustic performance that can ONLY be matched by the best wall system at 280-300mm wide.

QuietWave is available in rolls of 1.3m x 5.4m

CurtainWave® SQ is the easy and simple way to block out sound using existing curtains and window décor. A high performance noise barrier and vibration damping material, CurtainWave® SQ is effective at absorbing noise even in heavily-glazed rooms.

CurtainWave® SQ is a flexible noise barrier and vibration damping material. CurtainWave® SQ was designed for backing curtains to increase the noise attenuation given by glass.

It is like installing a double glazing system with the advantage to also blocking sunlight.

CurtainWave® can be directly sewn onto the curtain material or attached to a separate fabric or ‘block-out’ material.

Due to it’s patented micro-cellular composition, CurtainWave SQ achieves the same acoustic rating as a mass loaded flexible nose barrier 2 x heavier, ie. 4.5kg/m2.

CurtainWave is only 2.3kg/m2 (nominal)

CurtainWave has a tested* acoustic rating of Rw 27.

Page 14: BARRIER QuietWave - Free CPD - IN2AP Learning · QuietWave® acoustic plasterboard barrier is the most economic 6-star acoustic wall system available. The thinnest and lightest way

AcoustiFlex®SQ flexible noise barrier is one of the most effective sound solutions for aircraft noise, traffic and railway disturbance.

Acoustica’s AcoustiFlex®SQ (formerly known as AcoustiFlex) noise barrier is highly effective against external noise from aircraft, motor vehicles, rail transportation, neighbouring properties and adjoining offices. Greatly reduces noise at construction sites when hung from an overhead structure or draped over temporary fencing. Available as AcoustiFlex® SQ 27, AcoustiFlex® SQ 29 and AcoustiFlex® SQ 31.

AcoustiFlex®SQ consists of a flexible micro-cellular membrane bonded to an aluminium facing foil and reinforced polyester backing.

The AcoustiFlex noise barrier has a matching acoustic performance of Rw 27 for The AcoustiFlex® SQ 27 (Wilkinson & Murray test results following page).

The AcoustiFlex®SQ has extremely good sound attenuation over the full frequency spectrum.

Typically the AcoustiFlex®SQ 27 achieves the equivalent Rw of a competitors 4kg noise barrier, AcoustiFlex®SQ 29 = 6kg noise barrier and AcoustiFlex®SQ 31 = 8kg noise barrier.

BARRIER

Page 22: BARRIER QuietWave - Free CPD - IN2AP Learning · QuietWave® acoustic plasterboard barrier is the most economic 6-star acoustic wall system available. The thinnest and lightest way

GreenLAG® pipe lagging was developed to contain the intrusive noise generated by the turbulent flow of liquids through pipes, fittings and general noise break-out from ductwork, fan housings and valves in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

GreenLAG®

acoustic pipe lagging

Acoustica GreenLAG®

Incorporating the ‘QuietWave®’ technology, a revolutionary noise barrier our tests have shown that a flexible and cellular structure noise barrier increases ‘Vibration Dampening’ and thus for a given weight and thickness will achieve a better STL (Sound Transmission Loss).

This is one of the reasons GreenLAG® is substantially lighter than other thicker products.

Another direct consequence of material thickness, is the reduction of the ‘Vibrations Radiating Surface’, when lagged over pipe.

GreenLAG exceeds the acoustic requirements set out in the BCA 2011 (Ref. F5.6) for habitable & non-habitable rooms:

Exceeds Rw+Ctr 40 for habitable rooms Exceeds Rw+Ctr 25 for non-habitable rooms

GreenLAG® ticks all the boxes for health, safety, ease and economy of installation, acoustic performance and material saving and conservation.

Health:• Safe for workers, safe for building occupants• Low VOC’s - less than that required for

GreenStar rating of 0.5mg

Safety:• Barrier is Group 1 Fire Rated; fire protection is not

dependent on additional layer.

Installation Easily cut GreenLAG® with a knife or scissors to size, keeping wastage to a minimum.

Wrap GreenLAG® around the pipe overlapping all joints by 50mm (vertical & horizontal) to avoid potential flanking noise.

Wrap 3 circumferential wraps of high quality 48mm - 72mm wide reinforced aluminium tape (sold separately) at approximately every 350mm (ie. 3 wraps every 1m of pipe length) and tape along seams.

Ensure a minimum separation of 50mm between the pipe and the plasterboard ceiling for maximum effect.

Calculating the width (W)

W = π x [OD + (2xT)] +50mm overlap

W = width of pipe lagging to go around the pipe

OD = Outside pipe Diameter

T = Pipe lagging thickness

π = 3.14

Recommended Installation For optimum benefit VyBar® Marine must be properly & carefully installed.

Where airflow is required expert advice should be sought from our engineer, as acoustic baffles may be required.

CuttingVyBar® Marine are easy to cut to size and install.

Measure the area to be treated carefully & apply the measurements to the VyBar® Marine with a black felt tip marker.

It is advisable to increase the measured area by 1-2 mm all around for a tight fit, even when cutting from a pattern.

Pinning, Glueing & Taping If the vessel is being insulated against both sound & fire, welded metal or bimetal pins are recommended.

If the vessel is only being insulated against sound, adhesive PVC pins are acceptable.

Pins should be installed starting 200mm max from material edges in a 300x300 grid pattern.

If there is a space between the VyBar® Marine and the surface it is being adhered to, a backing washer should be installed on the pin prior to installing the material. This will ensure a secure fixing.

All edges & joints should be taped with a reinforced aluminium foil tape.

If the product is being laminated with other materials a fire resistant glue is recommended.

Even the smallest gap around a door reduces its ability to shut out noise. Acoustica’s DoorSeal system effectively closes the gaps for secure, soundproof door sets that meet the necessary specifications.

To maintain privacy and the required sound transmission loss ratings with acoustic door sets (frame, door and seals), we offer acoustic seals to provide a barrier to airborne sound and help ensure that the acoustic performance provided by a door set which conforms to the specified rating for the wall or partition into which it is installed.

Acoustic tapping testAcoustica’s product range of noise control solutions for flooring systems has been repeatedly independently tested to consistently achieve five and six stars in the Association of Australian Acoustic Consultants (AAAC) star rating system. However, results will vary depending on the construction, substrate and surface materials of each project.

Acoustica can provide site specific testing and certification for each project site, prepared in accordance with the International Standard ISO 16283-1:2014 Acoustics -- Field measurement of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements -- Part 1: Airborne sound insulation (refer ISO 140-7:1998).

Technical The BCA provides minimum construction standards for various building classes including acoustic privacy.

The BCA requirement is a weighted standardised impact sound pressure level with spectrum adaptation term Ci, of less than or equal to 62 Lnt,w+Ci.

However, the reality is that this is in most cases unacceptable to occupants and can result in the need for costly reparation works.

In response the Association of Australian Acoustic Consultants (AAAC) has developed the star rating system to rank the acoustical quality of apartments and provide guidance in the design and construction process.

AngelStep® 484P acoustic underlay is specifically designed for properties which use a timber substrate, offering exceptional reduction of both airborne and impact noise.

AngelStep® 484P construction combines a highly effective support and cushion. It provides maximum performance for minimum thickness combining an impact and vibration damping and sound absorber with two decoupled noise barriers.

The resilient polyester core layer absorbs impact energy and residual airborne noise from above and below, transforming wave vibrations into heat energy.

decoupled flexible floating’ top and bottom noise barriers greatly reduces airborne sound waves - noise above or below the floor - and complies with the Building Code of Australia in respect to separating floors between adjoining dwellings. When AngelStep® is installed, it delivers optimum performance and comfort for both resident and neighbours alike

Compared to products made by others, Acoustica’s AngelStep® range of underlays have been shown in independent comparison tests to offer a more effective acoustic treatment, a thinner solution, that is also cost effective.

The unrivalled performance of AngelStep® 484P was designed for use in apartments and townhouses, upmarket housing and professional office and consulting suites where discerning buyers expect performance beyond that mandated by the minimum requirements of the BCA.

AngelStep® 484P has been developed to suit construction over a timber substrate.

It is 10mm thick and is supplied in tiles 1150x1150mm.AngelStep® 484P combines Sound Transmission Loss, or airborne noise, with impact vibration reduction.

AngelStep® 484P achieves this because of its unique polymer construction. AngelStep® 484P will not ‘collapse’ under the weight of heavy furniture, castors and appliances.

Independent tests by Wilkinson Murray #09053/A with a new 20mm tongue & groove floor installed over a timber structure achieved and overall sound insulation improvement of 19dB or LnT,w 56

The untreated floor system had a rating of L’nT,w 75.

Each building is different, - particularly timber framed structures - so to achieve a target star rating we recommend an onsite tapping test to tune the solution to suit your project.

Comments Untreated timber joist flooring systems that separate individual tenancies exhibit very poor impact isolation performance.

It is estimated that for the untreated floor system the L’nT,w would be in the region of 75 with a correction of nominally 0, resulting in L’nT,w + CI.of 75.

This level of performance would not comply with the current Building Code of Australia requirements of L’nT,w + CI of 62.

The installation of the AngelStep® 484P underlay has resulted in a significant improvement in impact isolation between tenancies (an improvement of ≈ 17 to 19 dBA).

There is a charge for this service.

Installation methodology for vinyl floors 1. for thin vinyl or vinyl that does

not interlock or clip together we recommend installation of the vinyl on top of flooring grade plywood on top of the AngelStep® product

2. all surfaces should be level, clean & dust free prior to any installation

3. pour & spread an even coat of polyurethane glue

4. (similar to Dunlop Vinyl Adhesive) using a 3-4mm “V” notched trowel - note the glue should have the consistency of toothpaste

5. allow the adhesive to become ‘tacky’ before laying the AngelStep® 630, this should take 10-15 minutes depending on environmental conditions, specifically temperature & humidity

6. repeat the glueing operation on the AngelStep® 630 before laying the vinyl floor

7. you can apply an even pressure on the vinyl floor

8. the glue can take 24-48 hours to set (refer to the manufacturer’s instructions)

How is an impact test done? - Test Methodology A tapping machine is used to generate impact noise on the floor of the source apartment.

The tapping machine consists of five hammers weighing 500g each that continuously fall from a 40mm height.

The tapping machine is placed in four different positions within the room.

A Sound Level Meter is used in the receiving room (the room below the floor) to conduct the impact noise measurement.

An averaging measurement technique, for a period of 30 seconds per tapping machine position, is performed.

The field test results are then analysed and the acoustic performance of the floor is determined using Australian Standard AS ISO 717.2 ‘Acoustics-Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements’.

Case studyBuilding Mandated By-law: Impact Insulation Class (IIC) 55 or less or 3 star in the AAAC (Association of Australian Acoustical Consultants) star rating guide.

Installation of a timber floor over AngelStep® 630 over a concrete slab.

Result: Impact Insulation Class IIC 68 or Lnt,w 42 (6 star in the AAAC rating guide).

The result indicate that the tested new flooring system with AngelStep® 630 acoustic underlay achieves IIC68 which significantly betters the impact noise standard mandated by the strata by law being ≥ IIC55.

KlipTex® is a customised stretch fabric system which includes a sound absorption material concealed within the perimeter of the KlipTex® frame, over which the decorative fabric is stretched and locked in position.

KlipTex reduces reverberated sound and enhances ambiance in restaurants, dining areas, lobbies, waiting rooms, meeting rooms, auditoriums and open office areas.

KlipTex also adds style and effective sound control by combining fabric panels with other surface finishes.

Add creative flair by using decorative fabric panels of any shape and size. Use custom fabrics with printed artwork, logos or graphics. Use as an architectural feature only, without the acoustic substrate.

An attractive acoustic answer to wallpaper, KlipTex® allows you to cover your walls in any material whilst it cleverly soaks up sound through its concealed noise absorbing frame.

Locks in place

The KlipTex® frame system includes a hinged track to eliminate the possibility of damage to the fabric during installation and removal.

The unique locking mechanism ensures high tension of the fabric and eliminates the possibility of sagging.

Fabrics can be cleaned in-situ like any other upholstery products. Alternatively, fabrics can be easily un-clipped and removed for cleaning, redecorating or cycling of seasonal or themed printed fabrics.

The KlipTex® acoustic substrate will not flatten or twist and supports the hanging of wall art and other light objects. Additional design elements such as shadow lines and lighting can be incorporated. The ‘tackable’ substrate can be used as a pin-board in meeting rooms to mount charts and other printed material,

The on-site installation of the KlipTex® overcomes problems of pre-fabricated panels. Perfect alignment with adjacent architectural features and fittings is assured by the customised installation by factory trained personnel.
