This document gives an overview of published material addressing an Integral approach tosustainability, ecology, corporate social responsibility, international development, future studies,and social action. Included are academic journal articles, theses, dissertations, and books. It doesnot include the large number of articles about these topics available on the Web, in magazinesand popular journals, or in the knowledge base at Integral University. This document ends withtwo lists for further inquiry. The first covers books that detail the Integral framework. Thesecond is a list of primary sources for better understanding human development andtransformation, which is central to the Integral framework. The overall intention is to providescholars and practitioners with a solid bibliography from which to develop their own researchand application.

BARRETT C. BROWN is Co-Director of Integral University’s Integral Sustainability Center, which appliesIntegral Theory to sustainable development issues. Since 1995, he has worked throughout the Americas in the

areas of sustainability, human development, and communications. He has completed advanced certificationprograms in Spiral Dynamics and ZERI (Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives), is on the advisory board of the Shift Foundation and IntegralCity.com, and is the United Nations representative for the journal Kosmos: AnIntegral Approach to Global Awakening . His Ph.D. studies in Human and Organizational Systems at FieldingGraduate University focus on the customization of sustainability initiatives to the developmental levels of allmajor stakeholders and systems involved. In addition to consulting, mentoring, and research, Barrett also co-designs and delivers workshops on Integral Theory and Practice for Integral Institute. Barrett has presented andtrained widely, including at the United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development (side event), theBioneers conference, and the School for International Training.

SEAN ESBJORN-HARGENS, Ph.D., is a founding member of the Integral Ecology Center of Integral University and has researched environmental philosophy and sustainable development for a decade. He is currently 

collaborating on a book with Michael Zimmerman about Integral Ecology. He is the Vice Provost and Dean of Academic Affairs of Integral University, as well as Executive Editor of  AQAL: Journal of Integral Theory and Practice.

He is an Assistant Professor in the Integral Studies Department at John F. Kennedy in Pleasant Hill, Californiawhere he teaches courses in consciousness, culture, and ecology with an AQAL framework. His articles haveappeared in the  Journal of Consciousness Studies and the  Journal of Bhutan Studies. Sean recently edited a specialdouble issue of World Futures (Ervin Laszlo’s journal) on Integral Ecology with seven applied case studies. Seanhas been a backpack and sea kayaking guide for an outdoor program serving young adults for over a decade.
