Welcome to Week 9. What a busy, yet wonderful week we had last week with both R U OK Day and the

School Colour Run. Today we have a number of photographs in this newsletter to show what we are

doing here at Barrack Heights. At BHPS we love sharing the wonderful things that are happening inside

our school and especially in our classrooms. We will be continuing to add these in our newsletters as well as on our social media platforms.

Morning Assemblies - To get ready and prepare for the day ahead we will now be having a morning

assembly in the school hall every morning. These assemblies will only go for five minutes and will start

right at 9am. At these morning assemblies we will discuss the school value focus for the week and what

our specific expectations are in regards to that specific school value focus. This is not an assembly

parents and carers need to attend, it is simply an assembly to start the day on a positive note by setting the expectations for the day ahead.

School Values - At Barrack Heights we have three school values. Previously they were Safe, Respectful

and Accepting. Following lengthy discussing with students, staff and the P&C, we have amalgamated the

respectful and accepting values to be one value under the title Respectful. We have then added a new

value titled Engaged. In the coming weeks we will be explaining what these values are, what they look

like and how we know they are being shown. The three new values Engaged, Respectful and Safe cover

all areas of school life from the classroom to the playground. Stay tuned to more about our school values and how we are introducing and explicitly teaching them at Barrack Heights Public School.

NAIDOC Public Speaking - Last week, Mrs Mangos and Troy took four students to Koonawarra Public

School for the Southern Illawarra AECG NAIDOC Public Speaking Competition. The students have been

working exceptionally hard with Mrs Mangos and Troy on their speeches and were amazing on the day.

The team of Tyrell and Alex placed second and Angel and Ava placed third! Well done students, we can't

wait to see how you go in the next stage of this competition.

Colour Run - What a fun event! A big thank you to the BHPS P&C for the organisation of this event,

everyone had a blast on the day. Congratulations to everyone who raised money for this event, we did

reach the $5000 mark and as promised, I was happy to have a pie thrown in my face. Take a look at

some of the photos in this newsletter if you didn't have a chance to get there on the day. More will be published on our website and Facebook page shortly.

South Coast Athletics - Congratulations to Jacinta T, Cooper MJ, Abby Q and Alysha M who represented

our school and District at the South Coast Athletics Carnival in Canberra on Friday. The students put

their best foot forward and achieved personal bests on the day! Well done!

Warm regards,

Skye Seymour

Principal

Thank you P&C for organising such a fun event! From the P&C:

Thank you everyone who came to help support the School Colour Run. The students looked like they had an amazing time.

I have been told the highlight was Ms Seymour getting a pie in the face. Congratulations to the students who won prizes on the day.

Please remember, we still have one more week to fund raise for the Colour Run! So far we have raised

over $5000, great work everyone. We still have more prizes to come for the highest earning fund raiser and top 3 classes who raise the most.

Prizes will be going out next term. A reminder that all money needs to be in by Friday 20th as prizes need to be ordered by Thursday 26th.

If you are unsure how to order these please put it on the sponsor booklet and the P&C will order for you.

Warm regards,

Kally

YOU CAN DO IT!

Lesson 30 - Feeling Angry

Page 20: Barrack Heights Public School Term 3 Week 9 · If your child is starting school in 2020, would you please contact the school office staff to collect an enrolment form and register

This week students learn to express emotions appropriately and describe ways to show awareness of the

feelings and needs of others. Students will learn to become confident, resilient and adaptable. They will

learn to undertake and persist with short tasks, within the limits of personal safety.

Learning Intentions

1. Students will learn about the blocker of feeling very angry.

2. Students will be able to identify events and situations that lead to them feeling angry.

3. Students will understand the elements of a plan that will help them to manage their anger.

4. Students will understand they have options in how angry they get when faced with conflict situations where someone is acting poorly.

5. Students will understand the consequences of reacting with extreme anger verses controlling their anger.

Barrack Heights School Values

Value of the Week: RESPECT

At Barrack Heights we show respect towards each other. In particular, we speak respectfully to each

other. This week we are focusing on speaking to one another with respect. Our words are kind and we are thoughtful of how we are using our words to talk to one another.

By speaking respectfully to each other, we are showing we value each other. At Barrack Heights we

value everyone and this can be shown through the way we speak to one another.

This value focus will be discussed at every morning assembly this week.
