Mobile technology continues to revolutionize the way students access and consume course content, providing rich, engaging, and dynamic learning experiences. Barnes & Noble Education (BNED) is at the forefront of this movement, developing courseware solutions in partnership with Loud Cloud by utilizing OpenStax and combining rich content with videos, animations, and activities to enhance the pedagogic mission of our incredible NMSU faculty. Faculty using our courseware solutions are completely supported by BNED staff to ensure that they can fully customize, curate, and fit the material to their course and teaching style. All of our efforts focus on affordability; this fully customized course material solution only costs students $25 per course. Your NMSU bookstore works continually to impact student success and retention, while reducing student cost. Students without access to required course materials are less successful and therefore less likely to complete their course of study and graduate than their peers with access to all required materials. The main reason students do not purchase required course materials is the high and increasing cost of textbooks and courseware. In order to combat this pressure we offer course materials in a variety of formats: New, Used and our Rental program. We also price match our major competitors: Amazon.com, BN.com and local brick and mortar locations. In our ongoing efforts to reduce price, we are excited to announce a new program: First Day. First Day is Barnes & Noble Education’s new inclusive access model. The First Day program brings a new affordable option for faculty using electronic learning materials, ebooks, online learning environments and labs. Leveraging our relationships with publishers like Pearson, Cengage, and McGraw Hill, your NMSU bookstore is able to negotiate access to course materials at a lower rate per student than they would receive if they purchased directly from the publisher. First Day integrates seamlessly within Canvas eliminating the need for students to purchase and enter an access code. All students have access to course materials within Canvas by default ensuring that every student enrolled in a First Day course has their material at least 7 days before the start of class. Students are assessed a fee on their statement of account for the cost of materials allowing them to directly apply their financial aid to their course material. Students are given the option to opt out of the program if they wish; however, it is their responsibility to acquire the required course material.

We worked collaboratively with the Aggie Welcome and Orientation team throughout the summer to assist in orientation programming, particularly on the second day when we were lucky enough to serve all prospective Aggies breakfast in our Cafe, providing a safe space for them to leave their baggage, and ensuring a memorable meeting place for these prospective students to meet back with their families and check out after this life changing experience.
